Unconscious bias - Impact on gender diversity in the workplace There are encultured assumptions and judgements that exist within all of us and, more broadly, within organisational structures, and it is this unconscious bias that largely contributes to the under-representation of women in senior leadership roles. As individuals and organisations, we must consciously identify, recognise, and alter this unconscious behaviour to create more gender balanced and diverse leadership. This presentation will delve into results from the Law Council of Australia’s National Attrition and Re-Engagement Study 2014 and will explore tools to retain and promote senior female leadership by addressing unconscious bias.

Taking advantage of unexpected opportunities While some opportunities can be anticipated, many are unforeseen. Embracing and adapting to these opportunities is often essential to successful leadership and should be recognised as a valuable chance to promote personal growth and career advancement. Tapping into and exploiting these unanticipated prospects is a shared experience that many senior leaders have embraced on their journey. Patricia will share the lessons she has learnt on her journey and will explore: • Her path to senior leadership • Identification of valuable opportunities • Changing approaches to being proactive and seeking new opportunities

Effective leadership is based on a leader’s ability to understand strategy, develop their own authentic people skills and more importantly embrace a sustainable passion. If a leader successfully hones these skills, they do not need to search for success, rather success finds them. Drawing on her experience as an executive leader in the education sector, Wendy, will explore: • Identifying capabilities to become a better leader • Understanding and finding your own leadership passion • Embracing the interconnected nature of your organisation
