THE MONTH OF JUNE IS DEDICATED TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

ST. John Baptist de La Salle writes: “How long has Jesus been knocking at the door of your heart, waiting to enter?” (Med 85.1—Vigil of the Nativity) “Prepare a path for God so that he can enter your heart.” (Med 2.1) “Show the great love you have for Jesus by being eager to talk with him in prayer.” Med 144.3—on St. Mary Magdalen) “Earnestly ask Jesus that his Spirit may be alive in you.” MTR 4.1 [Med 196.1])

Interview with

Bro Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría, Superior General (Part) Interview with Brother Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría, Superior General - Fraternitas Magazine, a publication of the Lasallian District of Brazil-Chile - May 8, 2014

What were the most significant moments of your 14 years as Superior General? It is not easy to speak about the most significant moments because this would be very subjective. Personally, I think about my meetings with Brothers during my visits or meetings in Rome. I felt that my presence, beyond my own person, was a sign of the internationality of the Institute and of the spirit that identifies us. Some significant moments would include the starting of new ministries for the educational service of the poor, such as the inter-congregational project in South Sudan. Also something very significant for me was the development of the idea of the shared mission with lay partners and the mission that we have lived in recent years. The Young Lasallians movement was also significant as well as the Lasallian Volunteers movement. This last year with Pope Francis has been very significant for me as well as the challenges that he is presenting to us. I feel as if we are living a phase similar to the one that we lived after Vatican II.

La Salle Responds to Nigerian Crisis Stand with Girls Pursuing Their Education In Nigeria 276 girls remain missing after being abducted from their school by the terror group Boko Haram. The girls were taken because they were pursuing their education – a reminder to us all of the many obstacles related to culture and tradition that girls in many parts of the world must overcome to improve their lives.

As we pray for the girls’ safe return, we ask you to please stand with girls everywhere risking their lives to attend school. I stand with girls risking their lives to attend school. On Friday, May 9, 2014, La Salle's Student Council embarked on a project to join the world in praying for the safe return of the missing school girls in Nigeria. Students took over 70 photos of La Salle faculty and students. They created the video below by setting the photos to the music performed by La Salle's choir.
