Holy Land Olive Carvings

On the weekend of May 28th / 29th, 2016, there will be a display of beautiful olivewood handmade carvings from the Holy Land in our Church. These Carvings are made by the Christians of Bethlehem who use them as their source of income. These brothers and sisters of ours are enduring hardships at this moment because of the volatile situation in their home country. Christians in the Holy Land used to be more than 37% of the population. They are less than 1% now because of the situation. As Christians of faith, it is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in Bethlehem. YOU can support them by purchasing some of these beautiful carvings after mass. Seton School in Manassas invites you to a rare opportunity to hear some of Arlington Diocese's most talented Catholic musicians at the St. Cecilia Scholarship Benefit Concert on May 28th, at 7:30, in the Corpus Christi Building at Seton School. The concert features the Seton Chamber Choir (directed by St. John's Parishioner Liz Foeckler), and this year's guest performers include professional Jazz Pianist Mark Brandt as well as Professional Baritone Singer/Pianist Carlos Alberto Ibay, (who will be performing this summer at Wolf Trap), and members of Chorus Sine Nomine, a Northern Virginia Choir. Tickets, which can be purchased at the door, are $5.00 per person, or $20.00 per family. We hope to see many of you there!

We will have a recap and ice cream social tonight, and we’ll also meet tomorrow for bowling from 7-8:30pm (Monday night). We look forward to seeing you! Stewardship Reflections—Trinity Sunday “But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.” (John 16-13) Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us know and live the truth. To prepare ourselves, we need to open our hearts to receive this gift before we can give it. Develop a daily prayer routine to ask the Holy Spirit to help guide our thoughts and actions. Solemnity of the Holy Trinity—May 22, 2016 “We boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.” How do you hope to share in God’s glory...as a priest, deacon or in the consecrated life? Call Father J. D. Jaffe at 703-841-2514 or write him: [email protected] . “That Man Is You!” Would like to invite all the men of the parish to join us at Joe’s Steakhouse in the lower room on Monday, May 23rd at 7:00PM for our first “Witness on Tap”. This is an opportunity for all the men to come together to listen to and be encouraged by other men of faith. 1 Peter 3:15 states “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason for the hope that is within you with all meekness”. We are blessed to have Andrew Schmiedicke do just that. So come join us for an hour or so. Enjoy a meal, appetizers and or a beverage and some good old fashioned brotherhood with one another. If you plan on ordering a meal or apps please come earlier as we would like to kick the program off at 7 sharp.
