PRESIDENT’S REPORT For my first annual report as President of North Entrance SLSC I would like to say how proud I am to be a part of a great club and community. Surf clubs are a group of people who share a common interest in protecting swimmers in the surf. This is foremost the reason we exist and the reason our founding members started our club, this should never be forgotten. If you have not read about or seen the plans, the committee have started to prepare for renovation’s to the upstairs bar, toilet and office. It was in the planning that we hoped to start these renovations after this season but due to not being awarded the grants we applied for we are looking at the end of season 2013/2014 this will give us extra time to apply for additional funds to allow this work to be completed. The renovation of Boso’s bar in the function room is planned earlier than the end of next season due to its failing condition. This season has been fatality free at our beach and that is due to the diligence and hard work of our patrol members. I would like to thank Luke as Club Captain and all the members who have helped him in the hundreds of hours that have been volunteered during the season. We have welcomed the young men from the Baxter Detention Centre. Their involvement in our club I am sure has been both rewarding for not only the club but also for themselves with all of them completing their Bronze Medallion award. During the off season they are going to continue their training with rowing the surf boat, with the ambition to hopefully compete in carnivals for our club. I would like to congratulate all the other new Bronze and SRC award holders on completing their training and look forward to them boosting our patrol ranks. This year we have had amazing results in all the carnivals that our club has competed in. The Nippers, Open, Masters and Board riders should be very proud of all their efforts and hard work. North Entrance masters have alone brought home 163 medals from all the carnivals they have competed in, and even though we are only a small club we have shown other clubs what the members of North Entrance are made of. After many years and hours of hard work and dedication Scott & Desire Laing and Craig & Sonya Tober have decided to pass the baton onto some of the other nipper parents. We appreciate everything you have done over the years and of course still look forward to seeing Scott and Craig on patrol as often as possible. I am sure that you will all agree with me that if it was not for the continuous hard work by Bob Mulvey and the volunteer bar staff the upstairs bar would not generate the essential financial input that our club needs. Bob is at the club most days ensuring that the bar is ready for weekend trading, thanks again Bob. Personally I would like to thank all the members that have taken on committee roles that assist in the running of the seniors and juniors. Without your assistance we could not function. To Janet and Boyd, for their constant work applying for grants, spending the many hours completing all the Surfguard data entries and the many hours of behind the scenes work, a huge thank you from myself and the members. To all the members of the board Debbie, Peter, Steve, Jamie & Luke your assistance with the running of the club and advice for me as a new President has been very much appreciated and I could not have done it without you. By now you know that Debbie Cooper was named volunteer of the year. Debbie puts in countless hours of behind the scenes work not only as secretary, but for the hall management as well. Along with the job of secretary and hall manager she is assistant treasurer. Debbie has asked me to start looking for a replacement secretary as she would like to step back from this role. Please consider the importance of this position and if anyone would like to step up to assistant secretary next season Debbie would love to teach you the ropes. Congratulations Debbie on your award. Club person of the year Rick Walker has been a pivotal part of our education and training. Rick who has spent hours with all the Bronze medallion and SRC candidates has assured us with future patrol members which is vital for our club to keep up our commitment to protecting

the beach. Rick was also named Facilitator of the Year at the SLSNSW awards of excellence at the end of last season. Rick congratulations on both awards and look forward to your ongoing training and assessing. To Peter Lane and John Loundon, congratulations on becoming Life Members. Being awarded Life Membership is something that is not just handed out to anyone, its takes years of dedication and hard work to fit our constitution’s guidelines. Peter and John have unequivocally fitted those guidelines I am sure everyone will agree. Finally, I would like to thank my family, and all the members of our club for your support. Being the President for the first time everyone has made me feel welcome and has assisted me when I have asked for it, and even when I haven’t. Your kind wishes when I was ill meant a great deal whilst I was in hospital. I hope that if it is the wishes of the members I will be back in season 2013/2014. In the meantime I look forward to seeing you all at the club over the off season. David Blow

SECRETARY’S REPORT We are at the end of another successful season at our great club - it’s gone so fast. We may be small in numbers but not in dedication. Our Executive has worked hard all year and will continue till the AGM in June. Thanks Dave, Jamie, Pete, Luke and Steve for all your dedication during the season. I’d also like to thank my assistant secretary Janet for all her help this year. Our JAC has done a great job educating and training our nippers in a fun, friendly environment. Patrol members have done a wonderful job, giving up their weekends to keep our beach safe. We are also very proud of all our competitors and always amazed at the number of medals they continue to bring back to the club from all levels of competition, including The Aussie Championships! Hopefully in the new season we will see the number of members grow as word gets out about Our Great Little Club. Well done Everyone Regards Debbie GRANTS COORDINATOR. COORDINATOR. TREASU TREASURER’S ASURER’S REPORT Looking at the club’s overall bank balances, our club is in a good financial position for one of the smallest Surf Clubs on the Central Coast. Again we have spent a considerable amount of money updating and refurbishing our facilities and purchasing new equipment for members. The Friday and Sunday Nights bar trading remains our major and consistent source of revenue. I would like to thank Bar Manager Mr Bob Mulvey and his voluntary Bar Staff for their outstanding efforts throughout the year. Thanks go out to Mr Kevin Hodge for doing our Friday night meat raffle which was very successful throughout the year. Hall hire and Functions provided much more income this year spearheaded by our Hall Hire Coordinator Mrs Debbie Cooper doing an outstanding job. Once again Janet Lindsay has done a great Job in securing a number of vital grants for our Club. This year’s Junior committee has excelled in the running the Club’s Kiosk on Sunday Nippers days and a special thanks to Danielle and her team. Club Clothing and presentation items has once again handled by Donna and her company Safety One at Long Jetty. Thank you Donna. The Fishing Club 1st Friday of the month Sausages sizzles again proved to be very popular thanks to Jim and Rob. The Entrance Blue Light Disco’s for their donation to the Club and to Jim and Peter who attend and help run these Community events. One of the most important people to our club are our Sponsors and people who donate money to our Club. Without our Sponsors we would not have the funds to run our Nippers programs and purchase vital Surf Life Saving Equipment. Thanks to you all. We still need members and their families to support our Friday and Sunday Nights social bar opening evenings throughout the winter months. For the club to be successful next season we need YOU to take on vacant positions, if we can All assist. Many hands make light work and we welcome you all. Our member and friends that patronise our Friday and Sunday Nights, Thank You! Don’t forget to bring your friends. Assistant Treasurer Debbie Cooper, thank for your assistance throughout the year especially with the payment of bills on line. I would like to thank NESLSC and the Life Membership committee and nominators for bestowing Life Membership to me. It came as a complete surprise to me and I feel very humble and I thank you all. Yours in life saving Peter Lane

A special thanks to the people who did extra patrol hours. Congratulations to the members who have completed their Bronze Medallion this season. SENIOR RESULTS Senior Tour Manager Another year down and another season of hard training returned dividends for some. Others were just as satisfied that they did compete strongly even if a placing in the first three wasn’t achieved. Every year our North Entrance Touring Team, competes very strongly against other clubs that have much larger member numbers and this season was no exception. At the Branch titles our Masters Team finished 6th out of 15 clubs and most of those medals were won in the water where it has always been our strength. In the NSW titles we finished 22nd out of 60 clubs and in the Australian Titles we finished 28th out of 66 clubs. Those results might seem a fair way down the list but we did finish in front of some very big clubs from around the country. Our overall season medal tally, including the results at the local carnivals was outstanding and the influx of a few new members like Stuart Sohier, Nathan Horswell, Paul Green, Donna Jones and Ray Waldron raised our participation level in some of the team events. Paul and Donna especially, put in a lot of training all year to gain experience on the double ski but were unfortunately unable to compete as a mixed team at state or nationals because there was no event for their age. However, their efforts will only make it easier for them next season and I hear Donna may have some additional training partners who are keen to jump in there and have a go next year. Those full season results looked like this : Carnival Local carnivals CC Branch Masters NSW Masters Australian Masters Season Totals

Gold 38 20 2 4 64

Silver 35 21 6 2 64

That’s 11 different State and National medal winners, which is a truly outstanding effort from the Breakers. Notable, was that Dave Chaffer and Luke Byatt achieved their first ever state medals. By the time you receive this Annual Report the 2013 North Entrance Touring Team has been nominated for the Central Coast Branch Team of the Year. Even if they are not successful in winning that award, they should still stand tall and proud for their efforts during the season. As always, towards the end of the season, talk comes around to the new ( or old ) members who are coming back next year. A few of the newer members of the Team are also telling me that we will have a few more competitors transferring in next season because they like the way our members train and enjoy themselves at carnivals, so let’s just see what eventuates. We know we can count on the “ Old Man of the Sea,” Laingy organizing training every afternoon and pushing all the younger members of the Team along. Although he should be starting to slow down soon as he is getting a little long on the tooth at 70 years! We’ll see, but my money’s on Laingy turning up to add another summer to his resume. Well that’s all for another summer I hope to see a few more people getting out on the water next year and if any of the younger members want to try their hand at ski paddling, I think we have a wealth of knowledge to draw on, so just ask any of the ski team how you can go about it. Until next season, paddle long and paddle hard! Ken Lupton Senior Tour Manager

Some of our invaluable helpers

JAC CHAIRPERSON REPORT Some achievements are not measured in medals and trophies. Some achievements are incremental, they take time, effort, training and bravery. Sometimes, as a club our greatest achievements happen at the back of the pack on any given Sunday, where an 8 year old completes their first unassisted ocean swim, or when a 7 year old decides "today is the day I will toe the line and have a go at the board paddle". This is the reason I am involved in our extraordinary club, it's safe to say that I am not alone here. When we see the same faces each week arriving bright and early to help out by working in the canteen, standup surfing, time keeping, judging, driving the duck, water safety, setting up the beach or generally corralling kids. I thank you all for your support and help. Due to the typical challenging conditions, we had many days where the ocean was simply too dangerous for our kids to enter the water. As a result we were forced to cancel a number of competition days, but on the days we did run competition it was certainly exciting. So great to see Gav's Tiny Tots each week compete with focus and determination ;) They giggle and laugh their way through the ever changing and challenging beach safety courses presented to them. Clemo and his band of stand up surfers starting at 7am each Sunday, where ripping the North Enny waves apart each week, great fun had by all. State Medals to Riley Laing, Gold and a Silver to Zoe Ifield are outstanding achievements. Regular Nippers saw our kids competing strongly each week, bravely taking on the famous North Enny shorie and challenging swim, backed up by very strong performances in local, branch and state carnivals where we finished 22nd overall including a bronze medal in the Under 10 girls board relay, Asunta Starr, Molly Picklum and Phoebe Laing. A special mention to our Under 14's that are moving into the senior club, I wish you well in the future and hope to see you on patrol in the coming seasons. This season is going to be a cracker, our JAC has some great plans for the new year. As always I welcome any and all ideas and look forward to seeing everyone on the beach in the 2013/2014 season. Fishing Club President’s President’s Report. I firstly would like to thank the Surf Club and the Board of Directors for their support through the past season. This season has not been a good one for us fisho’s with gale force winds and torrential rain storms making most of our outings difficult. The trip up to Laurieton did not see one boat getting into the water. Scott’s Head Trip on the Anzac Long Weekend produced brilliant weather but the fish were a little bit scarce. Hoping next season produces better weather and Fish. Jim Dwyer Secretary’s Secretary’s Report It is with great sadness that I report that one of our members Mr Bill Baker Turley is gravely ill in Wyong Hospital. We all wish you Bill a speedy recovery. I would like to thank Jim and Campbell for their assistance throughout the year. Our small band of members supported our monthly meetings and sausage sizzle as well as all of our trips a way. Thanks to all of the helpers that rallied around at short notice to run the BBQ on Saturday of the Stand up Paddle Board Heats at our beach. Unfortunately the Carnival was moved to Toowoon Bay due to large seas on the Sunday. Don’t forget the Presentation Night on Friday 5th July 2013, at 6pm. Peter Lane Weighmaster’s Report Report We now have a very competitive year after a bad start that saw the weather rule out most comp days including the entire Laurieton trip in February. A good roll up at Bermagui, Scott’s Head and more recently at Lake St Clear has gone some way to giving the season some respectability. We have a good core of fisho’s and thanks once again to Peter and Jim who organise our entire mob. Hoping that the fish we didn’t catch this year will grow bigger and better to be landed in our boats next season. Campbell Black

Bar Hard to believe that another year has passed since my last annual report. report The past year has been another successful year for the bar. bar Our takings are up some from last year. Some of this has been due to an increase in sales in our function centre and also a small increase in prices in line with rises in the wholesale prices of beer etc. Once again my thanks to Dave for his assistance as deputy bar manager and to all those wonderful derful people who volunteer their time to man the bar. bar Without them we would not be able to operate. My thanks also to the people who assist me to set up on Fridays - namely Boyd, Janet, Rob and Malcolm. Your our assistance in this is much appreciated . Special al thanks must also go to Kevin who runs the meat raffle every Friday night. night This raffle raised over three thousand dollars this year. year Money that the club would not have if not for the generous support of our Friday patrons. patrons So how about coming along to your yo club and supporting our fund raising efforts. This will be my ninth annual report as bar manager and each year I seem seem to preach the same sermon i.e. .e. if we don’t support the bar and buy raffle tickets etc. then our fees will have to rise to pay for all our ur running expenses . It would be remiss of me if I did not thank everybody who turn up to the club on Friday and Sunday nights to socialise and enjoy the camaraderie. camaraderie Without you the bar would not be open. So a big thank you. Bob Mulvey Tuggerah Tuffs Surf Surf Club Relay Challenge North Entrance SLSC was represented by a team featuring members from all ages. They were Boyd Barriskill, Tom Barriskill, Janet Lindsay, Jamie Ragen, Jack Ragen, Dave Chaffer, Warwick Blom,, Brett Jones and Tony & Garry from the Tuffs. Well done to all! We came after 3rd 3 place! As for the 50m Sprint Race Challenge, Tom Barriskill swam for us. A mighty effort but not fast enough. Perhaps next year with more training. Well done and thanks Tom.
