Publicity Report o o o o o

We missed one issue of the e-Newsletter this month due to circumstances beyond our control. That's the first time that has happened. There was also an error in our last e-Newsletter when we publicised the junior carnival when it should have been another story. My apologies. Judging by the sales of patrol shorts and the unfortunate error already mentioned it is clear that members are reading the newsletters. A meeting of the Pool to Peak was held on Sunday 8 Nov. to check on arrangements for the big event on Sunday 3 January. It will be a big day so we will need as many helpers as possible. Dave & Chris Garnham are working on putting together a team of registration workers so if you know of anyone who would like to help please let Chris or David know.

I would encourage members and their friends to like the Pool to Peak Facebook page to help boost our "likes". Editorial is being written for the Pittwater Ocean Swim Series which kicks off with the Bilgola swim 13 December. Finally, I can report that Pool to Peak entries are now officially open on www.oceanswims.com

IRB Captain’s Report o o o

o o

We have been busy with carnivals over the past month On top of this, we also assisted Northern Beaches Interchange with their paddle on the weekend at short notice. A huge thank you must go to all of our IRB volunteers We have an IRB crew course underway. We have a full course of 10 participants. We are hoping to have this completed over the next 3 weeks. General Discussion items: Finance approvals and timing for spending budgeted items. If items are listed and approved in the budget, when will the financing be available? We need to look at placing a deposit for an IRB. Word around now is that the wait time has extended from 8 months to 12 months. The current boats are ageing and discussions about replacing the boats have been around for the last 2 years with it being put backwards on the priority list due to club finances. A boat is ~$13,000. A deposit is ~$6000 leaving ~$7000 when it is ready for delivery.

It was discussed that we need to move with the purchase of a new IRB and to put a Sponsors’ name on all IRB’s. Kieran to place order and work with getting sponsorship name’s on IRB’s. Moved: Ted Smithies Seconded: Jane Steinert Carried Unanimously

First Aid Report o

o o o o o o o

We have done our first 2 Carnivals of the season. The peninsular Challenge and the JAC carnival. For the Pittwater Challenge I did the First aid on my own but with some assistance from John’s wife who is a nurse as it got quite busy. I struggled to get volunteers for the Nipper Carnival. Eventually got enough people by Kieran asking people individually. We had 5-6 injuries at each carnival. Only one at each carnival referred to hospital with a wrist injury and a hamstring injury. No-one transported to hospital via ambulance. I have had to purchase quite a few small items in recent weeks as cases are wearing out. We also had an oxygen cylinder that was dropped last week after I had checked it for Patrol. This resulted in damaging the regulator which had to be replaced. I have also noticed a few times recently that the oxygen is being left on the table on Patrol and left out in the sun. More care is needed with our equipment and I would like this to be brought up the next Patrol Captains meeting and possibly in the newsletter. The First Aid Room is also being left very dirty and messy of late. Equipment is being left in a very sandy state. Last week I had to clean up to 10 stiff neck collars as everyone had sand all over it. I would also like to request a key for the outside First Aid Room door. I have not been given one and there are times when I do need it. I have had to purchase quite a few small items in recent weeks as cases are wearing out. We also had an oxygen cylinder that was dropped last week after I had checked it for Patrol. The First Aid Room is also being left very dirty and messy of late. Equipment is being left in a very sandy state. Last week I had to clean up to 10 stiff neck collars as each one had sand all over it. Please remember this equipment is expensive and we need to look after it! Ted Smithies to supply Outside First Aid key to Leanne.

Outdoor Equipment for discussion and / or approval. Brendan Doyle showed the committee the proposed outdoor table & chairs, he suggested that the table base be circular for more stability. Lead time is 7-14 days. It was agreed that money raised from Bar Committee/Knackers function will be put towards the outdoor furniture. Karen Hennessy also explained that the Nipper committee have kindly offered to help with some of the payment if necessary. Thank you Nippers. It was agreed that the budget for outdoor furniture would be up to $6,000. Crutchie explained that investing in improving the amenities within the club will benefit all members and bring everyone closer together as one. Moved: Sandy Menzies Seconded: Jane Steinert Carried unanimously
