Kindy and Rural Care Merry Christmas from the Kindy Our last ‘Out and About’ walk of the year was taken to set up our hay bale, view the others and have a play at the playground. The children were very creative in making their decorations out of recyclable materials for the hay bale. On the way back one child was walking pass rose bushes that had the old flowers removed. He noticed and I explained that sometimes by taking off the old ones, it helps new ones grow. He replied, “Well that’s a bit like recycling, isn’t it?” What a great comment! The children have enjoyed these walks with some always asking when the next one will be. Here are some photos from the walk to enjoy.

The children and educators at Booleroo Centre & District Kindergarten and Rural Care at Booleroo and Melrose wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas.

BCDS are lucky to have committed staff and I would like to personally acknowledge the efforts of Jane Crawford and Jenni Caldwell who taught the Reception/Year 1/2 class this year, Tamara Schmidt who shared the 2/3/4 class with myself and Marika Spielhagen who was responsible for the Year 4/5/6 class. Our primary classes are also extremely lucky to have had Eileen Phillips our trusty SSO who has provided excellent support for our students this year and our Pastoral support Worker Trish Hooper who regularly visits our classes. It is unfortunate that we will be losing Eileen next year as she is retiring and we wish her well in her new ventures. Also to Anthony Edgecumbe, Elaine Forrest, Sam Ireland and Kate Fitzgerald who have taken Primary classes for Art, Library, Science and Choir. I would also like to acknowledge all the volunteers who have helped in any way this year whether it be in the classroom, sports carnivals, excursions or camps. Thank you! Our school would not function effectively without the role each and every one of you performs. Finally, thankyou to the students at Booleroo District School; we are blessed to have such wonderful kids who all follow

our school values of Integrity, responsibility, resilience and respect. These qualities in our children ensure excellent learning is happening throughout our school and that all children are doing their best. A reminder that the primary students will have their class parties at the Booleroo Centre Swimming Pool tomorrow the 10th December starting at 11.30. We will again be having a sausage sizzle lunch with a fruit box and ice cream at a cost of $5 per student. Students not involved in the sausage sizzle need to bring their own lunch. Finally, I wish you all a safe and relaxing holiday break and look forward to working with you all again in 2016.

Senior School It seems that this year has flown! The students have managed the transition to their next year’s study program capably, with enthusiasm and cooperation. In particular, it was great to welcome the students new to our school from the different feeder schools. We trust they enjoyed their 2 days of transition last Monday and Friday. In the new year, we will be seeking feedback from students and parents on this change of the end of the school year. Our Presentation Night was held on Monday, 7th December and this year for the first time, it was a whole school event. It was wonderful to see so many students and their families attend. The night ran very well and we were delighted with the outcome. Congratulations to the Class of 2015. We trust their results reflect the work and commitment they have put into their subjects. A reminder that the results are released next Tuesday, 15th December online and thereafter the certificates should arrive. Thank you to the teachers and SSOs who have dedicated themselves to providing an excellent quality of teaching and learning programs, support and leadership in our secondary school. Your work is greatly appreciated. In particular, we wish the teachers and SSO staff leaving us at the end of this year all the best: Kate Fitzgerald – Thanks for being such an inspirational and effective teacher and mentor to the students; for showing awesome leadership with staff; and thorough organisation of many extracurricular activities, but especially Poverty Day, Camps, Choir and SAPSASA. Sam Ireland – Thanks for your enthusiasm in teaching science, and for your commitment to providing excellent extra-curricular activities such as Science Week, SRC & Careers Trip. Senada Vojin – Thanks for your teaching in the areas of Mathematics and Science, and your desire to improve learning outcomes for students. Eileen Phillips – Thanks for your dedication to working with students in such a kind and patient manner to improve their understanding.

Michael Phair – Thanks for your hard work in picking up English, PLP and Geography courses after Kirby Chapman took maternity leave. These few words are inadequate to cover the depth of our appreciation of their work. We will miss them and wish them well for the future. Enjoy your holidays! Happy and safe Christmas everyone!
