“Reach for the Stars”

From the Principal, Miss Sarah Perrett Dear Parents & Care Givers, As a parent or carer you play a vital role in your child’s learning. Building a positive relationship between home and school plays an important part in the education of your child. It has been wonderful to see so many of you actively contribute in your child’s education by volunteering and attending school events, as well as supporting the P&C at recent clearing sales and Easter Raffles throughout this term.

Senior Room Indonesian Learning a new language is fun and exciting. It enhances literacy skills, fosters respect and understanding of other cultures, helps develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, and enhances travel experiences. This year the Senior Room students are learning Indonesian through the Ketawa program which means ‘laughter’ in Indonesian. They can ask and respond to ‘what is your name?’, ‘how are you?’ as well as greeting someone at different times of the day. Last week students demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of Indonesian by performing a Wayang puppet show with a partner. Turn to page 5 for photos and phrases that have been learnt.

School Disco & Camp Quality Last Friday afternoon students and staff raised $100 for Camp Quality by coming to school in free dress and attending the disco. It was fantastic to see our student councillors taking a leadership role in the organisation of the event by promoting the event, compiling the song list, volunteering in the canteen and running various games. Thank you also to the parents who came and supported the event.

Assembly & Book Fair I encourage you all to attend our final assembly for the term on Friday 6th April, at 9:00am where the Senior Room will be showcasing their learning from this term through an entertaining performance! Following the assembly there will be a parent/ student challenge, open classrooms, Book Fair and morning tea, concluding around 10:30am. The theme for the book fair is ‘Paws for Reading’. We encourage students (and parents) to come dressed as their favourite animal book character.

Easter This year Easter falls during the school term, and the break is for 5 days. The school will be closed to both staff and students from Friday 30th March through to Tuesday. School will resume on Wednesday, 4th April. To those travelling, we wish you safe journeys.

Last Day of Term One

A much-loved D&T project has seen students design and construct boats from alfoil. They used the Engineering Design Process in all D&T projects. This involves the students having to consider the task criteria, discuss ideas, draw a plan of what they want to create, make a list of required materials and construct the model. The students came up with a range of ideas, and each model is very different, yet all boats floated! As it was quite windy on the day they were tested, students were also able to see how the wind moved the boats on the water. After testing was completed, students had a discussion about how their boats could be improved. To evaluate the effectiveness of their design, students wrote down what they would do differently next time and all were highly engaged in this aspect.
