———————————————————————————————————————————–—— The preparations for the fete are in full swing. I hope to see as many families enjoying the fete as possible this Sunday between 10.00am and 2pm. This is our major fundraiser for the year. We are still short a number of helpers for the Devonshire Tea. If you can assist it would be greatly appreciated. We are also after people to assist with the set up from 8.30am onwards. A reminder too about the baskets, cake plates, raffle tickets, mystery bottles and books please. Wrist bands are $25.00 presale and $30.00 on the day. We congratulate the following student leaders on taking on the following roles as subject captains; Sport – Emma Graham and Noah Bee-Hickman Music – Elise Jolly and Finan McLaren Library – Tayla Kleeven and Alannah Dean Drama – Liam Turner and Alannah Coghlan LOTE – Ryan Tomkins and Nina Taylor Bus- Toby Marshall & Elise Jolly ICT – Nicholas Szutta and Cailen Lone Environment – Caitlin Hunt and Kelvin Young These are very responsible positions in the school. We have had a number of reported cases of head lice; please check your children’s hair regularly. An inexpensive way of treating head lice is to put cheap white conditioner through your children’s hair and then comb it out with a fine tooth comb and wipe it on paper towels after each comb through. Hair conditioner and combs are available from the office on request. Any child with live head lice is to be excluded from school until they are treated. We thank you in anticipation. Active April is coming up (formally called Premiers Healthy Challenge). Families who enter receive the following just for registering:

10 free YMCA passes

15% off at Rebel Sport

One free child pass to the National Sports Museum and MCG Tour

One free child pass to SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium

One free hour of tennis court hire at Melbourne Park or Albert Reserve

Regular tips and ideas on ways to keep active Last year we received a $500 voucher for registering so many families, and many families enjoyed the benefits of the above especially the 10 free YMCA passes. Posters will be displayed around the school but all you have to do is go online to www.activeapril.vic.gov.au The sports captains will be visiting classes to talk to students about it. \ A reminder that Monday 24 March is a pupil free day. I hope to see you all on Sunday. Sue Becker Principal

Clean Up Australia 2014 As part of the Year 3/4 studies, Phillip Island by the Sea, the students took part in the Clean Up Australia Day campaign for 2014. The Bass Coast Shire Council asked us to concentrate on the little things that get left behind. At first we thought Cowes foreshore and Thompson Ave looked pristine but when the students looked a little closer, they were amazed at what they found. They collected many items including over 400 pieces of broken plastic, nearly 100 bread ties and over 200 bottle tops. They have left Cowes a prettier place and contributed to helping the local wildlife avoid eating the wrong things. The data they collected has been sent to the council to help them develop their strategies to reduce these little pieces of litter.
