Welfare

Welfare Consistent Rules and Consequences Most good parenting books tell us that we need to create rules and be consistent in enforcing them. According to this straightforward advice, we need to control our own tempers and calmly follow through with the rules that we ourselves set if we want our children to behave. Not only is it difficult to stay calm in the face of ‘meltdowns’, but following through with rules and consequences is not always enough. However, creating rules and consequences is an important starting point! Most of us understand that kids need structure and discipline to help them learn and behave. We set rules so they know what is expected. We have consequences, both rewards and punishments, to make clear the importance of following those rules. Without rules and consequences, our lives would be chaotic. A book I read a little while ago had a perfect example to illustrate this point about consistency. A family had some difficulty getting their 2 children to eat dinner with them at the dinner table. After some discussion, they acknowledged that their rules about eating dinner had been unclear and inconsistent for some time. If the husband and wife were tired after working late, they sometimes gave in and let the children eat in front of the TV. Then, when they wanted everyone to eat together, it became a battle to get them to the table. With some coaxing, they agreed to make eating together at the table a consistent rule. The positive consequence of following the rule was some TV time later. If the children violated the rule, there was no TV later. This consistency brought order to their home after 2 days, during which the children tested the new rule……a triumph for good old structure and discipline! Cheers

First Aid Information Dear Parents, Please remember to check your child’s hair frequently for head lice and eggs. While head lice do not cause serious health problems, they can be very hard to manage, and cause children to miss school. It is the department’s policy that children who have live lice will be sent home for treatment. Children with eggs in their hair will receive a letter asking parents to remove them. The “condition and comb” method is very effective when done regularly:  Comb the nit treatment/conditioner onto dry, brushed hair  Comb the hair in sections using a fine tooth comb  Wipe conditioner onto paper towel from comb  Continue until all eggs and live lice are gone Head lice take 6 to 7 days to hatch, and when you treat it’s easy to miss an egg or two. By treating again in 7 days’ time, you are aiming to kill and comb out any head lice that have since hatched from eggs which were missed. Please check every member of the family. Re-infection is the least likely reason for head lice returning in a weeks time. If eggs do not die, or were not removed during the original treatment they may hatch and the lifecycle starts all over again. Thank you for your co-operation and patience, Joanne Sickbay Caretaker

Payment for essential items (school books)* This year all books were delivered in bulk to classrooms. This saved families a significant amount of time by not having to search the shops to purchase their child’s stationery. THE SCHOOL NOW NEEDS TO PAY FOR THESE BOOKS SO WE NEED ALL FAMILIES WHO HAVE NOT YET PAID TO PLEASE DO SO. Thanking you for your cooperation

MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARY Students must transport library books to and from school in an appropriate library bag. Our school library bags are very important to our school as they protect our library books. They are water resistant but NOT water proof. It is preferred that water bottles be carried separately from library bags.

Camps, Sports & Excursions Fund (CSEF) Families holding a Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or those who are temporary foster parents are eligible. The amount payable is $125 per year for primary students. This will be paid to the school and then can be used for camps, sports or excursions. Payments will be made during Term 1. Parents need to complete an application form and bring it to school. This can be downloaded at www.education.vic.gov.au/csef or picked up at the school office.

THIS SHOULD BE DONE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO PAYMENTS CAN START. Eligible families can use this grant to pay for Camps, Excursions and Sports.
