‘Lest We Forget.’

Camps A picture tells a thousand words, as you will see from the camp photos which follow. Personally………….I survived the th giant swing (Just!), and my surprise 70 birthday party! (Ha Ha!) The staff and parents who attended the camp deserve a pat on the back for being prepared to put the time and effort into providing such a wonderful experience for our children. Thank you! Maths Champs It was great to hand out another swag of ‘Mathletics’ certificates this week. Independent research shows that schools using ‘Mathletics’ perform significantly better in NAPLAN tests, and our results are certainly reflecting this trend. Keep up the great work, both at home and school. The students pictured below have each accumulated over 20,000 points this year and been awarded gold certificates. Congratulations!

Southern Rural Water Thanks I would like to acknowledge the generous support of Southern Rural Water. They fully funded bus trips for all our Year 5/6 students to the main points of interest in the surrounding Macalister Irrigation District, and provided a barbeque lunch prepared by the Heyfield Lions Club. They also provided a $250 grant which has been used to purchase maths equipment for use by our prep students. Much appreciated!

Swimming Program The Year Prep, 1 and 2 swimming program comes to an end next week. The children have been asked to wear pyjamas (not nighties) over their bathers for this lesson. Students from Years 3-6 will soon have lessons at the Maffra Pool and a letter was sent home this week with full details of dates and costs. Please note that this is an extracurricular activity, so permission notes and payment MUST be received before students can participate.

Transition from Preschool Four down and one to go! Today our 2015 preps left with a complimentary school hat and special book after a picnic lunch. The last transition visit will be an afternoon th classroom experience on December 4 . A parent information evening will follow on the same date.

Transition into Secondary School With most of our Year 6 students visiting Maffra Secondary College today it was a little quieter here. This secondary school experience included lessons in art, maths and English. The afternoon included team building activities. th They will have a further transition day on Tuesday 9 December. We believe we have a very effective transition program which has all Year 6 students well prepared before they leave primary school. There will be an opportunity for 2015 Year 7 students and their parents to provide feedback in a survey to be provided 4 weeks into the new school year. Transition into University No, I’m not kidding! We believe that many students have career aspirations and decisions about tertiary education firmly entrenched before they leave primary school. It is with this in mind that our school council have decided to fully fund a bus trip to Federation University Gippsland next Friday. The day will introduce students to tertiary studies in a fun and exciting way so that they can come away thinking more about university and the options available to them. A parent consent form will be sent home shortly.

Jive for Jordan All students are invited to a special disco event next Wednesday evening. The Year Prep to Year 2 Disco will be held between 4.30pm and 5.30pm. Years 3-6 will have their disco from 6.00pm to 7.30pm. The cost will be $5, and this will include a drink and snack. There will also be a donations box available. All funds raised will go to support the Wain family who are temporarily residing at Ronald McDonald House whilst 12 year old son Jordan has treatment for lymphoma at the Royal Children’s Hospital. The generous support of DJ, Ian Hone, and Woolworths, Maffra is greatly appreciated. Class mates were delighted to have a brief visit from Jordan on Monday. He is unlikely to return this year as his new treatment plan will take him beyond Christmas and his immunity during this period is expected to be very low.

Student Council Carnival The Student Council has been busy organising a carnival of special activities for tomorrow. All students are invited to wear casual dress and bring a small amount of money to spend on novelty food, drinks, games etc, organised and run by the students themselves. Students will need snacks and lunch as normal with the carnival expected to run from 2.00pm to 3.00pm in the school grounds. Parents are welcome to join in the fun. Any profits made will be used to support our World Vision sponsored child, Yadira.

Zooper Doopers for Jack As reported in a past newsletter, Year 5 student Jack Green, has made the Junior State Pool Team for the second consecutive year and will compete in the National Championships at Snooker World in Queensland in January. His class mates want help him to achieve his goal of participating at this level by selling ZOOPER DOOPERS at recess on MONDAY and TUESDAY next week. Zooper Doopers will cost 50c each.

Kanga Cricket Stars Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Girls Kanga Cricket team, which has advanced to the regional competition in Traralgon on Tuesday. Our best wishes go with the team: Janna Hennig, Molly Joiner, Mahli Benson, Meg Stonehouse, Kaitlyn McElroy, Tanika Pratt, Olivia Jansen, Chloe Anderson, and Mahli Oldham. Chet Dervish

SWIMMING A reminder to ALL grades for last session of swimming next week from Kemp Aquatics! Please bring: long sleeved / long pants PJ’s to wear for your last swimming lesson. The aim being to practise being in the water with clothes on. Lost Property Jamie Rohrlach has lost his new beach towel at camp. We think it went home with someone else. It has ROHRLACH on it. If any parent finds an extra towel please send it to school. A ‘Sizzling Start’ from Arzel in Room 9 “AAAAH”! Everyone screams as the sun gets closer and closer burning everything in its path. Everything was covered with black smoke making it hard to breath. It wasn’t meant to end like this, I said to myself.

Phillip Island Camp News from Harry in 3/ 4R They were so cute when you look through the eye holes. There were at least one or two chicks in there. The weather was freezing when we got to the penguin parade. There were heaps and heaps and heaps of penguins…. about 100 or 200 of them. The chicks were so noisy in the burrows. They were squawking and squawking. I bet they were hungry. Our ranger got a very soft and smooth stuffed penguin. It was cute.

Phillip Island Camp News from Jasmin in 3/ 4R When we walked into the koala section we saw about eight or nine koalas. Two or three were males. The rest were females. The ranger told us that koalas sleep for twenty hours a day and eat for four hours a day. I saw koalas and I smelled the eucalypt leaves. I could hear rustling. I felt excited as we walked down the boardwalk. After a while, we slowly made our way down the boardwalk to the end of the boardwalk. I had so much fun seeing heaps of koalas. It was so worth it. From, “Sage Stanza’s, or, Poems About Things Which You Should Label With Your Name” ACROSTIC ADVICE Here is a thing which you wear on your head. Apparently stops your skin from going red. Try one today as you go out in the sun. Surely, better than sunburn.
