Don’t miss Monday’s Healthcare Panel! One of Georgia HOSA’s newest additions to the Fall Leadership Conference is the Healthcare Discussion Panel. The panel will crackle with energy, elicit fresh ideas, and bring the audience into the discussion. WORKSHOPS Leadership Lessons from The Hunger Games Presented by Fred Grooms Learn leadership lessons from the popular book and movie series, The Hunger Games. The characters of this series can teach you a great deal about understanding the dynamics of leadership. Everyone will find themselves leading others. So you need to learn to identify different leadership styles, when to use them and which style you may lean on the most. This is a multi-media presentation. You don't have to have seen the movie or read the book to learn these lessons. Open Heart Surgery Presented by Dr. Roy Wampole Overview of a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft - heart surgery. The presentation includes the progression of a surgical procedure with explanations of the various professional positions. The duties and interaction between team members are highlighted. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society- Pennies for Patients Presented by Jessica Douglas and Emily DeVane The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is HOSA’s National Service Project. Our mission is to find a cure for all blood cancers and improve the lives of our patients and their families. LLS has invested over $1 billion in research and made a significant impact in the general cancer arena. Attend a workshop to come and learn more about the organization and how you can make a difference in the fight against blood cancer through participating in the Pennies for Patients program! Athletic Training Presented by Steven Patterson MS, ATC, LAT, Athletic Training Program Director, Georgia Southern University During this course, attendees will be introduced to the field of athletic training as well as some examples of basic skills associated with the HOSA curriculum. During the presentation the attendees will learn about the profession of athletic training, education requirements, settings for employment as well as learning proper techniques in taping and wrapping.

Stroke Managers- Time is Brain Presented by Taylor Esdale, Deborah Camp, Lisa Jackson, Stroke Managers. Piedmont Healthcare Stroke managers will be reviewing the prevalence of strokes in the United States and the major stroke syndromes. We will also be covering how to recognize a stroke and the pattern of symptoms for either ischemic or hemorrhagic strokes. Once someone can recognize a stroke, getting them to a treatment facility that can administer tPA is very important. tPA reduces disability for a stroke patient and that is great because stroke is the number one cause for disability. Lastly, we will be going over risk factors and emphasizing the importance of taking action with the modifiable factors.

Getting More Women in STEM Careers Presented by Jenniffer Stetler, Young Women in Bio- Atlanta Young Women in Bio (YWIB) is a special committee of Women In Bio (WIB). YWIB focuses on creating interactive demos to teach girls about basic biology and the careers that utilize these principles. In this workshop, we will discuss the basic biology of vaccines and DNA isolation and the careers that use these principles. Innovate Through Your Competitive Nature Presented by State Officers Priya Rathakrishnan and Brook Beasley This workshop is designed to help members find their place within the HOSA Competitive Events Program. With exciting simulations and stations filled with various activities that resemble the 6 different categories of competitive events, members are sure to have an engaging and worthwhile time as they participate in fun activities and learn more about each category. This workshop will be a great tool for members to use to help narrow down the many choices of competitions available! Homecare is NOT for Wimps! Presented by Triff Cook, CMC, Homecare Association Did you know that about 93% of older adults prefer to stay at home rather than move to assisted living or nursing home? What does this mean? It means that there will be more and more need for caregivers to visit to their client’s homes to deliver personal care and assistance. But going into someone’s home is not as easy as it may sound. Caregivers must be versed in everything from sensitivity to cultural differences, understanding of how a home works to what to do in case of a client’s extreme distress. When in a facility, there is always a nurse or doctor down the hall, but in someone’s home that is not the case! Come learn more about this exciting field where need and opportunity abound! They will have the opportunity to learn how to be an effective member, to grow their chapter, and to use engagement techniques. Ignite and Break the Ice! Presented by State Officer Amelia Szabo Ignite & Break the Ice is a workshop designed to give activities for chapters to develop an engaging chapter meeting atmosphere. These activities range from energizing activities to ice-breakers to teambuilding activities. The different types of activities serve different purposes in the chapter meeting setting, for instance;; ice breakers allow members to get to know one another better, teambuilding activities allow members to compete in a friendly setting, and energizing activities allow members to get up, move around, and have fun during a long meeting or during the downtime of an event.
