JUST FOR JUNIORS Fall 2016

The Incorporated Trustees of the Gospel Worker Society Union Gospel Press Division Box 6059 Cleveland, Ohio 44101

Hi, Juniors, Sometimes it is hard to obey. Children have to obey their parents, grandparents, caretakers, and teachers. When we are young it seems someone is always telling us where to go and what to do. God has given you many people who love you and are responsible for your care. It is important for children to respect the adults who work to take care of them. When you respect and obey your Sunday school teacher, it is the same as respecting and obeying God. If you disrespect and disobey your teacher, you sin by disobeying God. The Bible says, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God” (Romans 13:1). God chooses the leaders of countries, cities, and even Sunday school classrooms. Remember that your teacher was chosen by God to teach you about the gospel. God wants you to listen and learn from your teacher. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Be obedient to them that are your masters . . . as unto Christ” (Ephesians 6:5). Remember that when you listen and obey your teachers, you are obeying God. Do not do what you are told only to please people, but remember that God sees what is in your heart. He wants you to obey and follow Him humbly. The letter to the Hebrews says, “Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God” (13:7). Remember, your teacher cares about you and wants to help you grow in faith. Obeying your teacher will help you learn and grow to be more like Jesus. God wants you to always grow to be more like His Son. Jesus always obeyed His Father God. The Bible says, “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered” (Hebrews 5:8). Jesus always did what God asked Him to do. Parents and teachers give children rules to keep them safe and happy. Rules at home and school help children learn and grow. Rules help people know what to do and how to live their lives. Though it is sometimes difficult, obeying your teachers will help you grow to be a stronger and better follower of Christ. Your friend,

A Prayer for Purpose Jonathan knew it was a special night for America. It was election night, and the people were voting to elect a new president! Jonathan’s parents had been talking about the candidates for many months. They had listened to the people who wanted to be elected, and they had discussed which person would receive their votes. On Election Day, Jonathan’s dad and mom went to the voting place to vote for a new president. After dinner that night, Jonathan’s dad turned on the TV. He sat down and said he would stay up late to watch the election results. Jonathan sat down beside his dad and watched the TV for a while, but he did not understand much of what the people on the screen were saying. Jonathan wondered who the new president would be. Suddenly Jonathan asked Dad, “What will happen if the person you voted for does not win the election? What will happen if the wrong person becomes president?” Dad turned to Jonathan and explained, “Although people vote for a new president, God is our sovereign Leader. That means God is always in control of our country. We know God will choose the leaders who will serve His purpose.” Jonathan did not understand. “What is God’s purpose?” he asked. Dad smiled. “We can never understand all of God’s purposes, but we do not have to worry because we can trust that God will always be our Lord and King. We can know God will always do what is best for His people,” Dad said. On the TV a man showed a map with many numbers and colors. “Tonight I will pray that our new president will know and follow God,” Jonathan said. “That is a good prayer,” Dad agreed.

God’s Peaceful Kingdom LESSON: Isaiah 11:1-9

In God’s future kingdom there will be peace and goodness.

GOLDEN TEXT—“They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:9).

Scripture Lesson Text ISA. 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jes⬘se, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: 4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. 5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. 6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. 9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. 5

Our Lesson Tells Us Miss Amber was a teaching assistant in Joshua’s class at school. Miss Amber helped Mrs. Gray hand out papers and make art projects. Joshua noticed that whenever the class had a history test, Miss Amber took Ryan into the hallway. Joshua heard Miss Amber reading the test questions while Ryan wrote the answers. Joshua felt angry. Joshua thought, That is not fair! I read my book and studied hard for my test. It is not right that Miss Amber helps Ryan take his test. I think that is cheating. After school one day, Joshua waited until the other students had left the classroom. Then Joshua said to Mrs. Gray, “I do not think it is fair that Miss Amber helps Ryan take his tests. I want Miss Amber to help me with my tests too.” Mrs. Gray answered Joshua patiently. “I understand that you think it is unfair for Miss Amber to help Ryan, but I know that Ryan has a condition that makes it hard for him to read the test questions. Ryan’s parents and teachers have decided that reading his test aloud is the best way to help him.” Mrs. Gray continued. “Joshua, I know that you read very well and can take your test by yourself. Please trust that those who know will always do what is best for the class,” she said. “I did not know that Ryan had trouble reading,” Joshua said. He felt sorry that he had been angry. Then Joshua smiled. “Would it be all right if I invite Ryan to study with me at my house after school?” he asked. 6

“I think that is a great idea,” Mrs. Gray answered. Isaiah was a great man. He was a prophet of God who wrote God’s Word to share with His people. Isaiah wrote many things about the Son God promised to send. He told the people about the Son of God who would come to save them. Isaiah wrote that a branch would grow out of Jesse’s family tree. He said a great King would come from the family of King David. Isaiah remembered God’s promise to King David. God had told David that an eternal King would come from David’s family. God promised that the great King would rule His kingdom forever. Isaiah described the great King. He said, “He will have the Spirit of the Lord. He will have God’s wisdom and understanding. He will know all God knows, and He will be as strong and mighty as God. He will know God, and He will always obey Him.” Jesus was the Son God sent to the world. He was the great King born in the family of David. Jesus had all the power and Spirit of His Father God. He had all of God’s wisdom and understanding. He had all of God’s strength and glory. Jesus understood God’s plan for His people, and He always obeyed His Father God. Jesus was the perfect Son sent by His Father in heaven. He was the perfect Judge God sent to His people. Jesus had all the understanding and power of His Father, and He always did what was right and good for God’s people. Isaiah wrote that God’s Son would
