~ BonNae Funk, Joan Olson, Jim Olson (annual members) & John Gors (lifetime member) ~ 2016 New Members 2017 Membership Fees $40 per year / per member or $400 lifetime / per member minimum age to join the Center is “40” MEMBERSHIP CHALLENGE: A challenge to all members to recruit a new member(s). For each annual member recruited you will receive one raffle ticket; for lifetime members recruited, two tickets and a current annual member that changes to a life-time membership, one ticket. The grand prize drawing will be held at the 2018 annual meeting. Thank you for your support in member recruitment at the center --

Crystal McGuire, Director The 48th Annual Board Meeting will be held Thursday, Jan 19th at 10:00 am in the Center Activity room. The 2017 projected budget will be presented. A list of 2016 completed projects will be discussed and a brief talk of ideas for 2017 improvements. Election of officers will follow. Door prize for the membership challenge will wrap up the 2017 annual meeting. All members are welcome.

Just a reminder – The Main Street Center will close if the sidewalks and parking lot are too icy to be cleared in time for activities and lunch. The center will also close if the school system cancels due to inclement weather. Please Listen to FM 106.3 or call the Center at 624-8072 or Dakota Senior Meals at 624-7868. If no answer - - please assume we are closed.

It takes a devoted and enthusiastic group of individuals to continually support the Center for the benefit of themselves and others. Thank you for your continued involvement. The Senior Citizens Services of Vermillion, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non profit.

Bring a friend to the Center ~ provide them with a tour of the computer / library area, the exercise studio, the puzzle, magazine and newspaper area, introduce them to the Center staff for further information about the activities plus a complimentary newsletter will be available.

Fitness Studio Rates at Center: $1/day ; $10/month $55 / 6 months; $100 / year Please stop into the office before using the equipment in the fitness studio for the first time. A staff member will answer questions on use of the room and equipment. The center is not responsible for improper use or accidents in the fitness room.

Consignment items as a donation to the Center ~ The Center has an account for items to be consigned at the New 2 You. If you have household, clothing, shoes, movies, furniture, toys, artwork, jewelry, crafts, seasonal and other items you may drop them off at the New 2 You on Wednesday or Saturday. You will need to label the items with account name of Senior Citizen Services. You may bring consignment items to the Center and we can also deliver them.

ITEMS -- FOR SALE: Check out the large selection of Books, Magazines & Puzzle Exchange -- For your pleasure to read at the center or check out. You may keep the older issues of magazines but please return the books, new magazines, puzzles & craft manuals when finished. The Center also subscribes to the Yankton P&D and Vermillion Plain Talk for your pleasure to read at the center. Please Enjoy! Auction/Gift Shop Donations: If you have seasonal items that could be auctioned or sold at the gift shop for a later date, bring them to the Center and the staff will prepare them for sale, auction or consignment. Gift Shop: Next to the office in the sitting room there are many items that are made or donated by members and friends of the center. Check out the many great gift items plus AVON & RADA catalogs! Silent Auction: The silent auction is displayed in the activity room. As we get appropriate bids for items we will remove the item, call the highest bidder and place another item on the table. Please bring in any items (new or good condition) that can be auctioned now or seasonal items for later. ENDOWMENTS: More people than ever before are remembering their senior centers in their Wills... HOW ABOUT YOU? Wills and bequests are like a road map that tells how to distribute your assets to family members, friends and charitable organizations. Estate planning also includes other methods of transferring your assets, during your lifetime as well as death, such as trusts and annuities.

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED: for rides to medical appointments in Vermillion and surrounding area.

The Main Street Center is a gift-worthy nonprofit organization that can benefit from planned gifts such as bequests, trusts, and annuities. These types of planned gifts insure the future for the next generation. You may also wish to donate a taxdeductible gift to the center for operational needs; members and friends will appreciate your support.

Notes from the Director’s Office: The Executive Board and the Center Director are interested in your ideas and suggestions for the center. The board meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month @ 9:30 am. A copy of the board minutes are available in the office. Board Meeting Notes: n Finance report - Income & Expense reports were discussed & accepted for the Center account. Financial report showed that the investments have increased some. No changes recommended at this time. Discussed End Of Year balances and 2017 General & Building Budget. n Facilities projects: Lights in kitchen area have been causing problems; an estimate from Johnson electric has been requested for new lights. Kitchen ceiling may need to be replaced as well. Will discuss later. n Tomorrow Project: Facilities committee will meet to discuss improvements for the bathroom updates (painting, new faucets, possible flooring etc) in January n Discussion of open positions on the Executive Board n Membership: 10 renewals and 1 death (life member) n Challenges & Donations were reported n Nutrition no formal report n Medicare Part D volunteer done for 2016 n Civic Council will be doing cheer plates n Reminder center closing 1:00 on 23rd & 30th n The next board meeting will be Thursday, January 12th at 9:30 am in the board room. The Annual meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 19 at 10:00 am. Members welcome to attend and participate. ~~~~~~~~~~

Interested members and/or non-members willing to volunteer for the benefit of the Center. Individuals must be willing to donate their time and energy to fundraising and decision making of the center. If you are interested in serving on the executive board contact a current board member or the Executive Director. Election for the following board openings will be held at the annual meeting at 10:00 am Thursday, January 19, 2017: Vice President (2 yr), Finance Secretary (2 yr), Membership (2 yr), Nomination (2 yr), and Memberat-Large (1yr)&(2yr). The Executive Board will approve the slate of candidates at the January 12 mtg.
