Preface Thank you for buying this DMX light controller. This Mithras unit is a flexible and versatile light controller that distinct itself by the extreme simplicity for its users. The Mithras controller will work fine with all existing luminaries that can be controlled over the DMX 512 A protocol. The initial idea of this unit was to have a very user friendly controller that can be used by non technical users as well. To achieve this goal following features are included in this product. • Programming the Mithras controller is done by using an external DMX control desk. This can be an existing unit like an USBDMX pc module, as long as it puts out a DMX signal it can be used to program the Mithras controller. This was done to eliminate a complex program interface in the Mithras itself. • Mithras can send as much as 128 different DMX levels and this with a perfect timing. • To assure a highly user friendly environment, a touch screen is integrated in the Mithras DMX controller. A very intuitively product is the result. If the user wants to activate a lighting scene, it takes no more than a touch on the desired soft button to do this. On this button the names of the programs are indicated. So you just touch the button marked ‘RED’ and the lighting scene RED is activated. • A grand master function is included to change the global light output. If the jog dial is pushed, the black out function is activated. • The speed of a sequence is easily changed by a turn on the jog dial. • The Mithras controller is equipped with a self activating timer. Therefore it is possible that the Mithras controller activates lighting scene at pre defined times. By using this scheduler function, it is possible to change lighting scenes without any person at the premises.

Changing the speed of a scène.

Lighting scenes can exist out of different steps to achieve a dynamic lighting scène. As an example you could have a lighting scene called : ‘colour change’. Step 1 red Step 2 blue Step 3 green The controller will go sequentially through these steps from 1 to 3. The time it takes to go from step 1 to 3 is called the fade time. During the initial programming the fade time is stored in the lighting scene. Each time the scene is recalled, the same speed is used as initially programmed. In manual mode it is possible to change this speed. This is achieved by touching the ‘SPEED’ button on the touch screen, and by a rotating the jog dial. The speed can be changed from 0% (= stop) to 200%.

Value of speed is indicated here. Rotation of wheel changes speed of scene

In speed mode this is double framed.

Using the scheduler mode

Lux Lumen bvba Kernenergiestr. 53a 2610 Wilrijk Belgium T +32 3 293 35 50 F +32 3 293 35 44

The Mithras controller is able to activate lighting scenes triggered by a clock / calendar. A weekly schedule can be programmed in this controller. Have a look at the following scheduler program of a week.

After this entire week, the controller starts all over again at the top of the list. Once the scheduler is programmed, the user can not change anything in this list without the password.

Touching this is activating the schedular mode.

The scheduler mode is initiated by touching the ‘SCHEDULER’ button. As seen on the following drawing. www.Lux-Lumen.com

Mithras manual EN V1.0 - page 11/30

Once the scheduler mode is activated a display similar to the following will apear. Here the Mithras clearly shows the different times and days and the events that is activated at this moment (now)

If there is no event programmed in the Mithras controller, the list of events in the touch screen is empty. If there is only 1 event programmed in the controller, a screen like here below is displayed.

The internal clock of the Mithras is powered by a rechargeable battery; this battery can supply the clock with the necessary power for over 2 weeks. If the battery is completely empty, the memory in the Mithras controller remains like it was, only the clock has to be reinitialized. The lifetime of the battery is approx 4 years. Changing the battery has to be done by an experienced technician. Daylight savings time The mithras automatically changes to daylight savings time and back. This happens the last Sunday of March and October. Of course time and date have to be correct. Power failure Lux Lumen bvba Kernenergiestr. 53a 2610 Wilrijk Belgium T +32 3 293 35 50 F +32 3 293 35 44

If the Mithras was disconnected from the current, the controller will reinitialise in scheduler mode and it will trace the scene which should have been active. If the scheduler is empty the Mithras will activate scene 1.

The channel modes.

The channel modus defines how certain DMX channels react on a variation of the Jog dial or also called “master intensity wheel” There are four possible modes for a DMX channel to react on the master.

1. M mode (dimming and blackout) The DMX value changes proportional by changing the Master intensity. This is mostly used for conventional lighting, as well for LED lighting.

2. X mode (no dimming, no blackout) The DMX channel doesn’t reacts on a change of the grand master or blackout. This is mostly used for colour scrollers and moving lights.

3. B mode (blackout only) The DMX channel doesn’t reacts on a change of the grand master ( =dimming). In this mode the DMX channel does change to 0% by pushing the blackout function. 4. T mode (fluorescent tube systems) If a channel has a DMX value different from “0” the channel can be dimmed but never below 4%. This mode is especially made to extend the lifetime of RGB fluorescent tubes. Changing the channel modes

Programming static scenes

A static scene is a scene which contains only one scene. To program a static scène we need an external DMX source. This can be any DMX signal from a PC/USB or other any controller able to supply a genuine DMX 512-A signal. This DMX signal needs to be connected into the connector marked as “DMX-IN”. This connector is located on the rear side of the controller. The rear side can be accessed by removing the two screws on the front panel and sliding the controller out of the wall mount box. Be careful not to drop the controller. On the back of the unit several parts are connected to the mains, these parts are protected from touching by the front panel. It is strongly advised to disconnect the controller from the mains when opening the unit. There will be no memory loss when disconnecting the fixture from the mains !

The DMX in connector is located in the lower right corner next to the UTP connector for the DMX output. The DMX IN connector is mounted in the opposite direction. The connector is explained in appendix 1 Lux Lumen bvba Kernenergiestr. 53a 2610 Wilrijk Belgium T +32 3 293 35 50 F +32 3 293 35 44

Adjusting the fade time of a static scène.

Last section explained how to program a static scene in the memory. All scenes including static scenes are given a fade time. Although static scenes never change, this time is used when we select another cue on the touch screen. The fade time stored in the scene will be used to fade from the former scene to this current selected scene. Default fade time is 5 seconds. Fade times can be set between 1 second and 15 minutes in 36 steps. Press EDIT TIME to change the timing with the jog dial. Press ENTER to confirm. Fade time can be verified in the upper left corner. Underneath the fade time one will find the word “LOOP” . The word loop indicates the last step in a scene. Since we are programming a static scene, LOOP is the actual scene.

Fade time is 5 seconds, and loop indicates this is the last step of this ligthing scene.

If cue 1 is active and button 3 is pressed, cue 3 will fade in. If a cue has the name “SCHEDULER” the scheduler will be launched. another button quits scheduler function and resumes manual mode. The 16 cage clamps are available for connecting any normal open contact or even relays. If desired this PCB can be equipped with an additional pair of cage clamps to connect a “master key”. This can be a switch to prevent accidental light changes. The PCB is mounted in a DIN RAIL mountable plastic holder.

Software updates V0.8 while entering alphanumerical digits an underscore will appear prior to the chosen digit. while in “edit scenes” menu the “preview” button will show the message “recording” for 1 second as indication for a stored value. The set clock menu needs a date as well. Hours and Minutes can be adjusted incrementally. The controller automatically changes to daylight savings time and back. This happens the last Sunday of March and October. A fourth channel mode has been implemented M : channel reacts on blackout and master intensity B : channel reacts only on blackout T : channel reacts both on master and intensity but if a value bigger than “0” is stored, dimming will never go below 4% X : does not react on master nor blackout In the channel mode menu, the “set all” button will copy the selected channel mode from the first channel to all the others. A confirmation on the “OK” button is required Improved “DMX ok” routine in the code screen, if DMX is detected.

!!!

While changing cue’s the dimmer value will not change to 100% anymore. The selected dimming value remains. Dimming value will be restored to 100% of blackout is selected and deselected. Cue 31 “FULL” is generated when the controller is reset.

If a cue receives the name “SCHEDULER”, activating this cue will launch the scheduler. The controller will hunt for the programmed cue for that period of time. Triggering any other cue will release the controller out of SCHEDULER mode back to MANUAL mode. This function is particularly handy when working with the remote bus panel / remote bus PCB.

With great help from Jesper Jorgensen we managed to get hold of a nasty rodent causing the controller to loose time when channel 128 was set to “X” in the channel menu. So all bugs exterminated. V0.83 GSM remote control bus activated.
