FUTURE OF ENERGY STORAGE MARKET

11

GENERAL INFORMATION 

Since any years energy storage providers are looking for new technologies – overall for industrial applications

The hope for many has been Lithium-Ion Batteries, fuel cells … But so far none of these technologies could capture a big part of the market

The simple reason is: manufacturing costs, reliability, safety and recycling

Lead-carbon combinations are not completely new, in different variations they have been tested an manufactured since decades

Lead-Carbon energy storage has been used and proven in various applications , but in small quanity so far

Just the ALABC (Advanced Lead Acid Battery Consortium) re-discovered the real potential of this technology – more under www.alabc.org

% Based on the ALABC inititiative “low cost, life 30 changing, lead carbon” leaded to break-through results in optimization of manufacturing processes for products for different applications

ALAB

ALABC has chosen NARADA to get the lead-carbon technology fit for the industrial market.

OVERVIEW LEAD CARBON CONFIGURATIONS/ ALABC - PROJECTS 

Negative plate is replaced by high energy carbon surface 

Good cycling

High energy density

Used by Axion Power

Negative Platte is partially replaced by high energy carbon surface

Extremely good cycling

High energy density

Used by CSIRO, Furukawa & East Penn

Negative Platte is partially replaced by 3D carbon structure 

Good cycling

High energy density

Used by Warschauer Universität, Firefly Energy & CEA-INES

30 % 

No change on product – just carbon additives to the active material 

Reasonable investment

Extremely good cycling in partial state of charge

14

WAS MACHEN CARBONADDITIVE IN DER NEGATIVEN PLATTE? 

During charge lead sulfate is created

It covers the surface of the negative plate and isolate it from electrolyte

In order to charge much more energy is needed

Chargeability gets worse and charging factory decreases – available capacity drops down

Lead sulfate can only be partially removed by special charge/ discharge procedure

Effect of sulfatation is higher at continues charge/ discharge applications, ie the battery is not fully discharge and charged

Over certain period of time the sulfatation can not be removed which leads to capacity loss and dead of the battery

Standard Lead Acid

With Carbon Additives

30 % Carbon addtives prevent creation of lead sulfate

 

They improve chargebility/ available capacity

They increase lifetime of the battery

They limit capacity loss over lifetime

Lead sulfate is drastically
