Dear Parents and Carers, We had a wonderful Harvest Service, led by P5 children and staff in October. They performed very well indeed! Thank you P5. St Catherine’s Homeless Project shared our food donations with the Homeless in Edinburgh and £255 was donated to Marie’s Meals to help children all over the world. Earlier in the term, £440 was raised to help the Syrian Appeal. We have a great tradition in Bruntsfield supporting charities and I know how much they all value the help we give them. It is good to see our children being responsible citizens and learning the joy of giving to worthy causes. Thanks to all who helped with the Halloween Evening. The children loved the whole event, especially the ghostly hall and games! I don’t know who enjoyed dressing up more, the children or the adults who helped! Well done and thank you everyone, a great event. I’d like to welcome our new pupil support assistants who are starting in Bruntsfield this month. Mrs Joanna Loxley, Mrs Susan Pallucci, Ms Claire Hughes and Mr Antonio Munoz Ibeanez are joining our great team. Enrolment Day, for 2016-2017 P1 catchment pupils is Wednesday 11 November. Please remember to bring all documents with you to the school if you are joining us. I have been very impressed with learning and teaching this term, especially geography lessons and follow up activities. We also have some great poetry which we have shared in the Newsletter. Keep up the good work everyone. If you have any concerns, questions, worries or suggestions you would like to discuss with any of our school staff, please let us know. We are all here to help! Remember, no concern or idea is too small to share! Kind regards,

Carol Kyle

P1 Enrolment Day - Wednesday 11 November If you have a child due to start school in August 2016 and live in our catchment area, come along to school between 9.30am—11.30am or 1.45pm– 2.45pm to register your child.

To register, you must bring with you: 1. Your child’s birth certificate (and visa if not an EU citizen) 2. Your current Council Tax letter for 2015/2016 3. A recent gas / electricity bill We are sorry, but we cannot process your application without the above documents. Please contact Amelia Heath, School Administrator, if you have any questions.

Annual Data Checks

A big ’Thank You’ to all parents and carers who completed and returned this year’s school annual data check form. We are in the process of updating our records. Please remember to keep us informed if you make any changes to your details such as moving house, change of telephone number or change of emergency contact details.

Head Lice Please remember to check your children and family members’ hair regularly. An NHS Parent Information leaflet is available in the ‘Forms’ section of our school website. You can also view the leaflet by visiting this link: http://www.healthscotland.com/uploads/ documents/25-Head%20Lice%20-% 20Information%20for%20Parents.pdf Remember regular checking stops the spread. Play your part to keep us louse free. HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR CHILD’S HAIR THIS WEEK?

As the weather turns colder, please remember to send your child to school appropriately dressed for the Scottish winter! Pupils generally play outside (except in extremely severe weather) at break and lunchtimes, so they do need to bring a suitable coat to school. Coats, hats, gloves and scarves should all be named, so they are reunited with their owners if lost! Thank you.

CHRISTMAS CARD ORDERS This year our school is taking part in the RUDOLPH CARDS Personalised Card Pack & Mug Project! Your child (or children) can design a special picture which can be printed onto their very own packs of cards and even onto ceramic mugs if you wish! Packs of 12 Personalised A6 sized cards (complete with envelopes) cost £5.00 and Mugs £6.00. Please return your order forms to Bruntsfield Primary School by the deadline date : Friday, 06 November 2015.

This October, after lots of hard work by pupils and staff, Bruntsfield Primary School was successfully awarded Green Flag status as a part of Eco Schools. Please check out our information on the Eco Schools section of our website for more details on Eco Schools and our 2015-2016 Eco Warriors.

Well Done Everyone!!!

We would like to welcome the following pupils who have joined our school recently: P2/3 Sam Graves-McEwan P2/3 Edy Crisan

On October the 1st I woke up feeling really excited as I was going to 'EuroDisney' with 41 other girls from my dance school. We had been rehearsing for months and finally the day had arrived.

We flew to Paris and over the next 3 days performed in a 20 minute show, a competition and the Disney Parade. The best part was the Parade as it was in front of thousands of people. I felt a bit nervous but mostly excited. I have been going to ballet classes since I was 3 but this was definitely one of the most exciting things I have done. (Sarah P6B)

If I Could Hear If I could hear I would hear the crying wind As it floated past my ear. If I could hear’ I would hear the ripples Of the water on a crystal blue lake. If I could hear, I would hear the forest sound Of the whispering leaves. If I could hear, I would listen to the Spinning of a spider. If I could hear, I would hear the cries of life, Dying, floating to heaven.

If I Could Hear If I could hear, I would listen to the way the sea gulps up the land And washes it out after some time. If I could hear, I would listen to the far off murmurs of Chinese New Year and the tip tap of shoes. If I could hear, I would sing along with a mother’s lullaby With a voice like silk embroidered with charm. If I could hear, I would turn bad things into goods things By listening to a sweet story at night time. If I could hear, I would listen to a band rehearsal Playing soft and gentle music.
