Parkhill Junior School Newsletter 4 November 2016 Article 14 You have the right to choose your own religion and beliefs. Your parents should help you decide what is right and wrong, and what is best for you.

Dear Parents and Carers This year our annual ‘11 Million Takeover Day’ coincided with ‘Children in Need Day.’ It was an explosion of creativity, learning and autonomy for our children! If you needed a reminder of how remarkable our Parkhill Junior School learners are…. then this day served as that reminder! The next generation can look forward to a world of generous, ambitious and committed workers, leaders and professionals, courtesy of Parkhill Junior School. Also, we are pleased to declare that £265.19 was raised for „Children in Need‟ and we thank our community for their continued generosity. Drama workshops across school marked National Anti bullying Week, highlighting the importance of understanding what bullying is and the importance of speaking up. Brightening the dark days of winter was one of the aims of our Festival of Light. The parents and children of Parkhill Junior enjoyed food and activities while learning about Diwali, Hanukah and Christmas. Illuminating! Enjoy Learning!

Parents and children must never bring any product containing nuts, on site. We encourage all our children to walk to school. Significantly reducing the volume of traffic around Parkhill Junior School and our feeder school Parkhill Infants’ is our ongoing challenge. Support us with this by walking, cycling or park further away and walk. Well done to our Junior Travel Ambassadors, who expressed all our views with their recent demonstration! Please be reminded that only Year 6 children are allowed to walk to and from school, without an adult. Written consent from a parent/carer is required. Children attending Breakfast Club, must be brought in to the Breakfast Club Team, by a parent/carer. (8:00 a.m start.) P.E. This half term in P.E, Year 4 have been developing some exciting new skills. Indoors, we have been learning skills such as body tension and core strength through ballet. Outdoors, we have used our creativity, teamwork and competiveness to invent our own games. Who could have guessed that creating your own games could be so much fun?

Viking Day As part of Year 4’s continued learning about the Vikings, we had Viking day! We learnt more about: the daily life of Vikings, how law and punishment took place, what/how weapons were used and much more!

Teeth In science, we have been learning about teeth, including the different types of teeth and how to keep them clean and healthy. We also had an oral hygiene expert come to visit us who gave us some interesting tips. Smile! 6

Year 5

We have had a very busy and enjoyable November! Greek Day Year 5 were lucky to have a Greek visitor come in and talk about everyday Ancient Greek life- from slaves to warriors to democracy! They were fortunate enough to see and interact with Greek artefacts. “We enjoy learning and discovering new things each term! We can’t wait to do more D&T next term.” 5C

“It was fun getting to hold all the weapons, I couldn‟t believe how heavy they were.” (Mehmet 5C)

“We were part of a Greek wedding.” (Daany 5SW)

Barbican Year 5 were given songs inspired by Roald Dahl‟s „George‟s Marvellous Medicine‟ to sing at the Barbican. Wow! They sang with the London Symphony Orchestra and outperformed all the other schools from across London! Magnifique!
