Dear Parents and Students, This year your student is about to embark on a challenging class towards their chosen career path. This class will entail that the student study, complete assignments and retain information throughout the year. The healthcare curriculum is set to give the students the opportunity to understand the various classes and careers that may be available to them after high school and even after college. I would like to employ your assistance in keeping you student on track according to the syllabus that I have given out. If I deviate from the syllabus, I will inform the student so that they may have an idea of the track that we are on. The Health Science Technology Department will guide your student through all the steps needed to achieve their college and career goals. I would like to ask your assistance in making sure the student’s attendance is kept up so that they do not fall behind. Absenteeism from my class means that the student may miss pertinent assignments which may put them behind for the nine weeks. Pharmacy Tech requires the student to study at home daily in order to pass the PTCB Exam. If you know that your student may be having trouble or may not be able to keep up with the strenuous schedule, please feel free to call or email me. Pharmacy Tech students are scheduled to achieve the goal of a Pharmacy Tech Certification after this class is completed. Each student is required to pay the fees given in this syllabus in order to be a part of this class. All projects will require that the students work in pairs or small groups. These groups will encourage students to learn to work together by using each others strengths to achieve a goal. I will call home if your student is constantly tardy, absent or if their grades begin to fall below passing. I will also periodically be making positive reinforcement calls as well. The syllabus gives the supplies that the students must get for the class within a week. Their composition books can be kept in class but the other supplies must go with them daily. Please sign and date this letter stating that you have understood all of my classroom rules and policies.

Employment Outlook Health care is the largest and fastest-growing industry in the United States. The health care industry employs over 10 million workers in more than 200 careers. The current and projected health care workforce shortage is creating a health care crisis across the nation. Health care employment growth between 2012-2014 is projected to be 25.5 percent. A recent study commissioned by the American Hospital Association pointed our current vacancy rates that include 15.3 percent for imaging technicians, 13 percent for registered nurses, and 12.7 percent for pharmacists. The explosion of technology in health care and an unprecedented aging population contribute to the national health care workforce shortage. Employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to increase by 31 percent from 2008 to 2018, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. –The U.S. Department of Labor Course Requirements: This syllabus has been prepared to inform the student of the expectations of the Health Science Education Program.
