REcruit! The best leaders and teachers are needed for this Transformation to work!

Our purpose is to create sustainable, high performing schools enveloped in communities of support that produce students who are consistently at or above grade level, college and career ready, and living out their potential. When we achieve this, we will save lives and our city will be seen as a model of success and innovation where all children, regardless of circumstance, achieve!

Supports for the Transformation Zone: • Billy Snow, District Transformation and Innovation Officer. Mr. Snow will function as a shepherd and will coach Principals and the ten schools through the turnaround process. • Principals will be selected through a rigorous process and given autonomy in the selection of their staff. • Partnership developed with the University of Virginia that will bring a level of professional development in the training process and support that will reach each campus leader and teacher with multiple opportunities to attend training over a three year period. • Weekly site visits from District Transformation and Innovation Officer and support staff to monitor progress and identify strengths and weaknesses that may need further assistance. • Embedded professional development and time for professional learning communities. • Embedded time for intervention(s), as well as solid instructional blocks for literacy, numeracy, and problem solving. • Summer professional development with incentives and stipends for participation. • A parent and community liaison assigned to the zone.

REINVEST! In our kids, in each other, in our schools… The Transformation Zone will empower leaders and teachers to do whatever it takes to produce college and career ready students. This will be done through professional development, use of professional learning communities, community partnerships, and multiple levels of support.

Why Split Configurations? • Narrows the focus of the curriculum for each school • Instruction and professional development and parental involvement activities can concentrate on the educational needs of a specific developmental stage. • Concentration of services and interventions • School routines, assemblies and activities can be more grade and age focused. • Focusing on a smaller subgroup of students can better address their social, emotional, and academic needs. • Increase our focus on the job embedded professional development, stipends and incentives, and a parent community liaison to assist with work in the zone
