YMCA summer camps provide children with positive and fun experiences that build confidence, new friendships and a feeling of community that will last beyond the summer. Camp Octorara is accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA) and Y staff go through rigorous training to ensure the safety and positive experience of each child.

In-Person Download a registration packet at www. ymcagbw.org/camp or visit your branch to pick up registration forms. Complete the forms while you’re at the Y, or return at your convenience.

YMCA MEMBERSHIP NOT REQUIRED

REGISTRATION FEE

Registration fees are due at the time of registration. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Traditional and Non-Specialty Camps: Family Member and Community Participant: $20 per child per week Specialty Camps: Select camps with limited enrollment require higher registration fees to reserve placement.

Siblings Discounts

Families with two or more children signing up for the same camp week receive 10% off the lowest weekly fee (restrictions apply).

Camp Payment

Payments can be made through electronic draft or in person at the branch either through a weekly payment or full payment.

A YMCA Membership is not required to register for summer camp.

All camp balances are due the Monday two weeks prior to the start of your child’s camp session.

LATE REGISTRATION

The Y is a non-profit charitable organization that strengthens the foundations of our community. Thanks to the community’s donations to the Y’s Annual Campaign, the Y offers financial assistance for various programs and membership for those unable to pay the full fees. For financial assistance information, contact the Octorara YMCA Program Center office, 610-593-9622.

Registrations completed less than 14 days prior to the start of the camp session will incur an additional $25 fee.

SPARK TIME

Time for Reading Fun!

We offer fun activities to help keep your child’s reading skills on track. Kids enjoy storyteller visitors, poetry slams, joke books, magazines and read a favorite book with a buddy or independently.

Fun, extended camp time for your child – at no extra charge! 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Does your child love music, arts, sports? The Y’s SPARK TIME extended camp program ignites your child’s interests with before and after camp activities designed to keep them intrigued, active and having fun! Included with your camp fee.

Cancellations

No refunds are available after the start of a camp week. Any camp cancellations less than one week prior to the camp start date will result in an additional $50 penalty fee. The camp day ends at 6:00 pm. If you are going to be late picking up your child, please arrange to have an emergency pick-up person arrive by 6:00 pm or call the YMCA to inform staff. A late fee of $5 for pick-up one to five minutes past program end time, and $1 per minute thereafter will be charged.

Super Heroes Unite Week 1: June 13 to 17 Super Heroes have been called to unite at Camp Octorara to make sure Camp Octo of 2016 starts out with Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Across the Galaxy Week 2: June 20 to 24 Grab your light saber and join us on our quest to defeat the dark side. It is sure to be out of this world! Field Trip: North Museum of Nature and Science

Mystery Madness Week 3: June 27 to July 1 Wanted: First class private eyes! Can you solve the mystery? Put on your spy goggles and uncover the secrets that camp Octorara hides. Visitor: Officer Friendly

Carnival Week 4: July 5 to 8 (no camp on July 4) The carnival has arrived at Camp Octo. Enjoy a week of games and adventure during our festive week of fun.

Brandy Olympics Week 5: July 11 to 15 Preparations begin for our 6th annual trip to Brandy Olympics! Field Trip: Elmwood Park

Pirates of Greater Brandywine Week 7: July 25 to 29 Captain Blackbeard buried his treasure at Camp Octo many years ago but has lost the map to reclaim it. Join the journey with his crew through caves, swamps, and sea battles in a race to find the treasure. Activity: Obstacle course

Gaming World Unleashed Week 8: August 1 to 5 Your favorite virtual characters have been brought to life and are at Camp Octo. Help friends Mario, Luigi, Mega Man, Pokémon, and more as we band together to overcome the evil forces. Field Trip: Grades 3-6 only Regal Cinema and Bell Tavern Park

blast from the past Week 9: August 8 to 12 Help us find our way back to Camp when we get lost in the past. Explore different traditions as we travel through the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Mighty Jungle Week 10: August 15 to 19 Shh … we are going to explore the jungle. What will we find? Campers go on an adventure through the jungle to help save the animals in the wild!

OCTORARA School District Extended Camp Create a full-day, Monday through Friday Camp experience for your child attending the Octorara School District Reading Camp. Monday through Thursday your child will be transported to the Y and participate in the exciting Octorara Camp from 1:00-6:00 pm. TEEN CAMPS Entering grades 7 through 9

YMCA Summer Camps are a great place to become a teen leader! Teens have great potential for leading others in ways that can have an incredible

impact! Our three leadership development programs harness that potential through experiential learning and doing. These programs are geared for teens who are highly motivated, ready to work AND play hard, and who demonstrate the additional responsibilities in accepting the challenges of leadership!

Leaders-In-Training (LIT) Entering grades 7 and 8 Weeks 1 through 10: June 13 to August 19 Leaders-in-Training (LIT) is a weekly camp for younger teens who are ready for more than the traditional camp setting. LIT’s work closely with peers to develop communication, team work, goal setting, trust, decision making, organization and problem solving skills, as well as teen-oriented activities that are not available to other campers. Fun, traditional camp activities are part of each weekly schedule. LIT Program (weekly session) Member: $195 • Community Participant: $215

COURSE WORK (CIT)

Weeks 1 and 2: June 13 to 24 or Weeks 3 and 4: June 27 to July 8 This two-week program is for teens that are passionate about building upon their general leadership skills. The program prepares teens for CIT Field Work. This skill based experience teaches teens how to be positive role models and leaders in our community through this camp experience. CIT’s are mentored by Y staff with a special emphasis on leadership, communication, teamwork, listening, public speaking and conflict resolution skill building. CIT’s also receive CPR and First Aid Training. Upon completion of this program Teens may apply for CIT fieldwork which will make them eligible for paid employment through our Junior Counselors (JC) Program. Member: $430 • Community Participant: $450

FIELD WORK (CIT)

Weeks 1 through 10: June 13 to August 19 Course Work IS A PREREQUISITE (CITs who completed Coursework last year are also eligible for Field Work) Interacting with campers as a role model requires maturity. The Field Work program provides CIT’s the opportunity to use the skills they learned in Course Work in the Camp environment. Teens will experience the rewards of working with the YMCA’s incredible staff team as they practice skills that will prepare them for paid employment. Participants are carefully selected based on an application process that includes a face to face interview and 3 references, so apply early to ensure your participation. Member: $125 • Community Participant: $135
