What •

Based in Seattle, Swedish is the largest nonprofit health-care provider in the Greater Seattle area. In independent research by National Research Corporation, Swedish is consistently named the area’s best hospital, with the best doctors, nurses and care in a variety of specialty areas.

The SummeRun was created in 1994 by Swedish and the Rivkin family, in memory of Marsha Rivkin, who had recently lost her life to ovarian cancer. Marsha was the wife of longtime Swedish Oncologist, Dr. Saul Rivkin (now retired). Since its inception, the SummeRun has raised more than $6 million to fund ovarian cancer research through the Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer, and has become a major annual community event in Seattle.

100% of sponsorship dollars and all funds raised through the event benefit the nonprofit Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer and its mission to save lives and reduce suffering through improved treatment, early detection, and prevention of ovarian cancer.

Why •

Ovarian cancer is the most deadly of all gynecologic cancers and the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the United States.

While survival rates for other women’s cancers – like breast and cervical cancer – have dramatically improved in recent years, the incidence and mortality of ovarian cancer has remained virtually unchanged in 40 years.

Seven in ten women die within five years of being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer research is under-funded and greater public awareness of the problem is needed.

By sponsoring this prominent Seattle event, your company will have the opportunity to support vital advances for women impacted by this deadly disease. Best of all, thanks to the generous underwriting of Swedish, 100% of your sponsorship dollars and all funds raised through the event will benefit the Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer. Who We Are Swedish is the largest nonprofit health care provider in the greater Seattle area with five hospital campuses: First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, Edmonds and Issaquah. We also have ambulatory care centers in Redmond and Mill Creek, and a network of more than 100 primary care and specialty clinics throughout the greater Puget Sound area. Since our beginnings in 1910, Swedish has been the region's standard-bearer for the highest-quality health care at the best value. The Rivkin Center, based at the Swedish First Hill Campus in Seattle, is one of the oldest and largest nonprofit funders of ovarian cancer research in the United States. In addition to funding more than $1 million in international research grants each year, the Rivkin Center hosts the longest-running ovarian cancer research symposium in the US, leads ovarian cancer education and awareness workshops along the West Coast, and is an important force behind early detection screening for high-risk women in the Puget Sound area.

2016 Company Teams •

A company team offers your employees the chance to enjoy a fun team-building activity and to be involved in a community service effort all in one event. Your company can also increase its presence at the SummeRun & Walk itself by wearing company t-shirts and walking together at the event.

Invite friends, family, clients, and vendors to participate— all can participate under your company name. This is a great way to bring health and fitness to the workplace, and also a terrific team-building tool.

Register virtual walkers who are unable to attend on the day of the event.

You will have a company page on the official SummeRun website (www.summerun.org). Your company page can contain your company logo, page title with company name, and company description or inspirational message.

Each team has a captain who coordinates team activities, manages team rosters, and serves as a liaison between the SummeRun and the team. Each team helps fund ovarian cancer research through the Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer.
