Naumai e te whanau o te kura Brooklyn Tena koutou katoa Dear Parents/Caregivers We are all looking forward to our school fair this Sunday 11-3pm. If you are available to help please send in the form and drop it off at the school office or email Nikki Baddeley [email protected] .The voting jars are up in the office for the “Kiss the Goat Competition”. Please encourage your child to vote for the teacher they want to kiss the goat! There will be more information regarding the fair on the next page of this newsletter. This event will be on rain or shine. There will be heaps of food (dumplings, samosas, whitebait fritters, Indian, vegetarian, sausages, fudge, cupcakes to name a few), drink (coffee, milkshakes, fruity water, lemonade), stalls (toys, bottle store, the new Brooklyn t-shirts, clothes, crafts…) and loads of activities (petting zoo, photo booth, football, golf, slingshots, teacher sponge throw, bouncy castle, racing and many more) for the whole family. It will be a great community and fundraising event for a sprung floor in a new hall/gymnasium so it can be used for sports, dance and many other activities. Do join us for a great day! We are now at the half way mark through the last term of the year and the teachers are writing progress and achievement reports for your child/ren. It is wonderful hearing all about the progress the children have made. We are in the process of reviewing our school year and we will be writing up the school’s annual report to share with you later in the term. Last Friday we have nearly a quarter of the school competing at the Central Zone Athletics at Newtown Park. Despite a cold southerly wind blowing across the park they all competed really well and we won 9 out of 10 relays! There are around 60 competitors who have qualified through to the Inter Zone athletics at Newtown Park next Tuesday. Congratulations and best of luck to all those children who are going into the next round. Also on Friday Michelle Morriss took 9 of our Year 7 children to a GRIP Student Leadership Conference. This was based around ‘Standing Up’ and making the most of leadership opportunities. The children really enjoyed this and this has been the foundation for our year 8 leaders this year. Talking of leadership we have a group of wonderful year 8 leaders leading our Brooklyn’s Got Talent competition. The final is Thursday afternoon. The Whānau Evening has now been changed to Wednesday 2nd December in the school hall 6-7.30pm. Please come along and see our wonderful Kapa haka group and hear about Michelle’s findings from her sabbatical. The Moa Syndicate has had to chance the date for their Year 8 Leavers Dinner and Moa Social. It is now on Monday 14th December. A notice with all the details will be given out next week. Tui Syndicate are going to the ASB Sports Stadium on Friday 11th December for their EOY community event. This will be instead of the usual Tui Picnic. We had the picnic in Term 1 this year and were able to enjoy a hot, sunny day. Term 4 is more suited to an indoor activity. A big thank you to the parents who have bought shoes from the Shoe Clinic. We were presented with a cheque for $180 as part of Shoe Clinic’s Shoe Reward Scheme. For every pair of shoes purchased $10 is donated to the school. Please see the flyer in the newsletter. We look forward to seeing you at the fair!
