San Juan del Sur Bay Clean-Up Kelvin Marshall 1.65 Metric Tons (Tonnes) of waste materials were removed from the Bahia San Juan Del Sur by 53 divers and volunteers over a two day period last weekend. Dive Nicaragua (the dive shop that spearheaded the project) reported that they had removed 785 different objects in total, including plastic (363), metal (171), textiles (64), glass and ceramics (60), rubber (55) and wood (20).

Lawmakers are PRONicaragua – Thirteen years ago, in 2002, PRONicaragua was created as the Export Promotion Agency of the Government of Nicaragua. Recently, the National Assembly approved a new piece of legislation (which has now become law) which gives the agency the power to operate as a decentralized entity, under the authority of the presidency with a public and private board of directors, a move that must be seen as another confidence boost for investors. PRONicaragua has been a huge success story from its inception and this move recognizes the accomplishments of ProNicaragua. The main purpose of the Bill is to strengthen the existing legal framework in relation to private investment promotion, exports and foreign trade, as well as to foster a favorable business climate. To date, the agency has attracted over 176 companies which represents US$1,200 million in investments and 71,000 direct jobs.

Los legisladores son PRONicaragua - Hace trece años, en 2002, PRONicaragua fue creado como la Agencia de Promoción de Exportaciones del Gobierno de Nicaragua. New PriceSmart Megastore Opens Today – The second location for this retail giant required an investment of US $15 million dollars to complete the 5,000 square meter location on 27,000 square meters of property (with parking for 300 vehicles) at Kilometer marker 11.5 on the Carretera Masaya. The company says it built the store in response to the huge increase in residential areas to the south of Managua. The small difference to the original store in Bologna is that a membership card isn't required for the food court or tire center. However; shopping in the main store will still require a card. The company is also promoting on-line shopping where customers can order from a vast inventory and collect their purchase from their nearest location. PriceSmart operates 37 warehouse clubs in 12 countries and one U.S. territory (six each in Costa Rica, and Colombia; five in Panama, four in Trinidad; three each in Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and Honduras; two in El Salvador; and one each in Aruba, Barbados, Jamaica, Nicaragua and the United States Virgin Islands). Criminal Code Under Review – New offenses, precautionary measures, length of prison sentencing and more power to judges are among items being reviewed by the National Assembly of Nicaragua as part of an update to the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code. Lawmakers say that the amendments are geared towards the fight against organized crime.

Buen Gusto Restaurant, a Business with a History Doña Guadalupe Morales, the owner of this restaurant informed Del Sur News that October was the 50th Anniversary of the restaurant. She explained that her mother Rosibel Morales, a native of Granada started the business in the fifties. She moved to San Juan del Sur by taking the steamship Victoria on the lake from Granada to San Jorge (they still have the ticket!) and then took the train from San Jorge, arriving at San Juan del Sur. She bought with her the items to make the "Original Vigorón of Granada" (with mimbro, plantain vinegar and Chile Congo). She sold that around the city while staying at “La Terraza” which offered room and board and had a large ballroom. It was located in the place where El Buen Gusto Restaurant now stands and went all the way to where Restaurante Inés is now. Morales added, "A few years later, Rosibel Morales rented land from the Pacific Railroad Company and paid 12 Córdobas a month to the Administrator; Mrs. Raymond (she retains the official receipt). On that land she built a small space and started selling peddling food to dock workers”. Morales said “Under the Mayor Federico Granja, she was legally awarded the property that she had rented for many years. Dona Rosibel banked at Financiera de la Vivienda and won a raffle prize of 25,000 Córdobas. With that money she built a better quality place with a wooden floor and started offering a guest house service”. In 1979 Doña Guadalupe Morales herself started to manage El Buen Gusto Restaurant and the lodging services, continuing the legacy of her mother as the most popular business in town with special attention and exquisite dishes. In 1985 she built the Rancho El Buen Gusto, a local bar and restaurant facing the bay and then in 1995 demolished the old lodging building in front to make way for the new and modern Hotel La Estación.

San Juan del Sur, Tola, Isla de Ometepe son algunos de los destinos que las agencias de turismo ofrecen. Sin embargo, si has ido a la frontera con Costa Rica, a unos kilómetros antes de llegar al puesto fronterizo, a la a la izquierda está la entrada de una carretera adoquinada, es la entrada a Cárdenas un verdadero paraíso aun sin descubrir. Cárdenas, es uno de los 10 municipios del departamento de Rivas y tiene las condiciones para ser visitado. Es el lugar ideal para encontrar diferentes atractivos en un solo destino. Es por eso que te presento las 8 razones por las que debes conocer este maravilloso pueblo. 1-La ruta Te recomiendo dejar el celular a un lado antes de empezar a recorrer los 17 kilómetros de carretera que hay desde el puesto fronterizo de Sapoa hasta el pueblo de Cárdenas. Al lado izquierdo tienes el lago casi todo el camino y al lado derecho una zona boscosa que está verde casi todo el año. Sin exagerar, a los rayos del sol se les hace muy difícil penetrar en esta ruta. No vayas muy rápido si vas en vehículo porque hay muchas curvas, además es muy normal encontrar animales en la calle y personas solicitando un empujón (un ride). 2-Ríos El primer río es el Sapoa, es profundo y caudaloso. Luego le siguen 10 más, todos resultan tentadores para darse un baño o incluso para saltar desde los puentes. Los lugareños dicen que estas aguas son aptas para tomar, vos decidís. Estos ríos están exactamente distribuidos desde la entrada de Cárdenas hasta Colon, la última comunidad del municipio. 3-La gente Por ser un municipio de tan solo 10 mil habitantes inmediatamente se reconoce cuando no eres de la zona. La gente es muy amable y con muy buena vibra. Las principales actividades económicas son agricultura, ganadería y pesca y es por eso que es muy común que un campesino a caballo te salude con un: ¡holaaaaa amigooooo!!! 4-El lago El gran lago de Nicaragua también es parte de Cárdenas. No te resultará extraño ver pequeñas playas casi vírgenes y que las puedes hacer tuyas si deseas, todo es que te dejes llevar. En el pueblo está un Malecón frente al lago construido hace solo un par de años, allí te puedes sentar y disfrutar de la maravillosa vista hacia los volcanes. 5-Alojamiento El sueño Farm y Blue Morpho, son un par de opciones y están ubicados cerca al pueblo. Estos dos lugares tienen energía eléctrica y agua potable, no vas a necesitar más para pasarla muy bien en esta zona. No te preocupes si vas con varios amigos, hay lugar para muchos. 6-Comidas y bebidas Creías que por estar muy alejado aquí encontraras las cervezas muy caras? Pues no, Cárdenas es muy económico. En el Malecón encuentras un par de bares donde si te sientas en la barra, posiblemente tengas a tu lado a un hombre usando botas de hule, quien busca refrescarse después de una mañana de trabajo en su pequeña finca. 7-Historia Revolucionaria, Cárdenas fue una de las zonas de combate en la guerra de los ochentas. Es posible que algún lugareño tenga alguna anécdota que contar. También hay un monumento en honor al Fraile Guerrillero español Gaspar García Laviana, quien murió en combate en este lugar apoyando al Frente Sandinista. Es considerado uno de los héroes de la revolución sandinista. 8- Fiestas Patronales Si lo que quieres es fiesta, El 8 de diciembre inician las fiestas patronales en honor a la Inmaculada Concepción de María, madre de Jesús. Tienes una semana completa de rodeo y actividades propias de fiestas patronales de Nicaragua. Conoce todo lo que ofrece Cárdenas, en vehículo o en buses que te trasladan desde Rivas en diferentes horarios. El único inconveniente es que no hay zonas WI-FI, pensé seriamente en que esta debió ser la razón número nueve.

Actividades para rescatar nuestro Estero en San Juan del Sur María Silva- De Sur News El pasado 30 de octubre se realizó una Cena Benéfica a beneficio del proyecto Protección, conservación y uso sostenible de los recursos hídricos de la Sub Cuenca Río San Juan (Estero), por productores(as) y usuarios en el Municipio de San Juan del Sur, elaborado por la Alcaldía Municipal y el Comité de Cuenca 72, en colaboración de GIZ Cooperación Alemana para el Desarrollo, esta actividad se realizó en Restaurante El Globo con la coordinación del Gabinete de Turismo y las Cámaras de Turismo de la ciudad. El Lic. Mario Rocha coordinador el proyecto explicó, “Las características y actividades realizadas en el marco del proyecto, como jornadas de sensibilización a la población que habita a orillas del estero y limpieza del mismo, como la firma de convenios de colaboración con empresas que aportaran insumos para la reforestación de las zonas altas del Rio San Juan del Sur (estero)”. Rocha agrego “ El Rio se encuentra contaminado por vertidos domésticos, industriales y residuos sólidos, debido a la falta de conexión al sistema de alcantarillado, la falta de implementación de las normas de protección al Estero (actualmente está incluido como Zona de Conservación en el Plan Municipal de Ordenamiento y Desarrollo Territorial) la falta de cobertura de recolección de desechos sólidos, causa exceso de sedimentos en el río, convirtiéndolo en un foco de contaminación y generando mala imagen de la ciudad”. La Lic. Cristina López representante de Compañía Cervecera de Nicaragua, expresó “CCN apoya las acciones del proyecto, entregando contenedores para la separación de desechos sólidos como plástico, papel/cartón, vidrio aluminio y otros desechos. Se hizo una identificación de 75 empresas en la zona costera, los empresarios y sus colaboradores serán capacitados sobre el manejo del reciclaje”. En la cena benéfica se hizo entrega de contenedores a 10 empresas con las que se iniciará la actividad de separación de desechos sólidos. Patricia García (GTM) expresó “Necesitamos más participantes para rescatar nuestro estero, debemos comenzar por no botar basura en nuestras calles, causes y costas. Esta noche esperábamos mayor participación de empresas y población, no solo hay que darle “Like” a las actividades que se promueven en las redes sociales, hay que participar, la basura en nuestra ciudad es un problema de todos, gracias a todos los presentes por su apoyo esta noche”.

The men's division was dominated by Nicaragua (and SJdS) who covered the podium in the blue and white of Nicaragua winning every medal on offer.

Rubén Mora y Danny López (SJdS) derrotaron a Jossy López y Luis López (SJdS) 21-15, 21-15 para liquidar el oro y la plata, mientras que Gerald Umaña y Denis López ganaron su partido (21-15, 21-17) en contra de Koen Voorend y Esteban Jiménez para tomar el bronce.

FUT-SALA INFANTIL Y MAYOR CIERRA SEGUNDA VUELTA La Liga de Fut-sala que desarrolla Comunidad Connect en nuestro municipio esta semana cerró la segunda vuelta, en la categoría infantil clasifican los primeros 6 equipos a la tercera vuelta y en la categoría mayor clasifican los primeros 8 equipos quedando eliminados dos equipos en cada categoría. En la categoría infantil Daniel Busto sigue de líder goleador con 24 goles y Walter Arévalo Reyes con 23 goles en la categoría mayor. Los partidos se están desarrollando de miércoles a viernes en el parque deportivo frente al malecón desde las 6:00 pm, te esperamos.
