Topic: • Free time activities (2) Customs and festivals in Francophone countries

Content Students will become familiar with a variety of cultural aspects this term, through the study of food, eating out and sport as well as festivals and customs pertinent to Frenchspeaking countries. They will be expected to show understanding of spoken and written texts on these topics and be able to identify a range of tenses being used to describe these cultural aspects. Students will also speak and write about their own experiences and demonstrate their knowledge of the festivals they have studied in French, using a wide variety of structures and vocabulary. They will add the imperfect tense to their bank of tenses and practise using the perfect and imperfect together. What knowledge and competencies will be assessed? All four skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) will be assessed through a mixture of informal classroom activities and more formal assessments. Knowledge of vocabulary and specific grammatical structures will be assessed through regular quizzing.

How will this unit be assessed? Translation tasks (French-English, English-French) Listening/reading comprehension tasks Speaking assessment

When will this take place?

Assessment is ongoing in every lesson and teacher feedback will take place regularly. Student progress relative to GCSE grades will be assessed every half term.

Term Summer 1 & 2

Topic: Free time; travel and tourism

Students will cover a range of language related to the topic of free time activities: from TV to cinema to sport to eating out. They will also study travel and tourism in the second half of the term and learn the forms for past tenses and the future tense to be able to talk about where they have been and where they will go in the future. They will develop their use of prepositions and understand and apply the word order rules of “time, manner, place”.

What knowledge and competencies will be assessed? Knowledge of vocabulary Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills

How will this unit be assessed? Regular vocabulary, listening and reading comprehensions; formal speaking and writing assessments.

When will this take place?

Assessment is ongoing in every lesson and teacher feedback will take place regularly. Student progress relative to GCSE grades will be given every half term.

Topic: ROMAN RELIGION AND ENTERTAINMENT

Content

Students will keep their language skills ticking over with some English to Latin practice but this term the main focus is on preparation of the set cultural topics to be assessed at GCSE. Students will look at the Roman gods and associated roles as well as the theatre and amphitheatre. They will look at the historical evidence we have for the cultural aspects, including looking at artefacts and literature in translation.

What knowledge and competencies will be assessed?

Knowledge of vocabulary Translation skills – English to Latin Ability to analyse, evaluate and respond to literature or other ancient sources.

How will this unit be assessed? Exam style questions Presentations

When will this take place?

Assessment is ongoing in every lesson and teacher feedback will take place regularly. Mastery feedback will be given every half term reviewing student progress.

Subject Area Term Maths Summer 1 Topics: Transformations, Constructions, Loci, 2D representations of 3D shapes

Content This half term looks at geometry topics, and within that a lot of visual elements of geometry. Our first topic looks at transformations as we study congruence and similarity when using a variety of transformations of shapes and points. In constructions and loci we will develop what we learnt in year 8 by improving and exploring deeper into the uses of construction tools. When looking at 3D shapes we will focus on drawing and interpreting drawings in order to develop our undestanding of properties of 3D shapes. What knowledge and competencies will be assessed? Subject Area Term Maths Summer 2 Topics: End of year revision and Assessment, Calculating with percentages

Content The majority of this half term will be committed to the end of year assessment and using revision to consolidate our learning from throughout this year. Following this, we will have a final module looking at calculating with percentages. Students will learn to use multipliers competently in the world of financial mathematics, including using compound interest over time. What knowledge and competencies will be assessed?
