Term Spring 1 & 2

Topic: • My studies Free time activities (1)

Students will continue to increase their range of French vocabulary and structures as they look at the topics of education and free time. Students will continue to develop their ability to understand more complex written and spoken passages and containing a range of verbs in present, perfect and future tenses. They will develop the range of structures that they are able to use productively in their writing and speaking, such as adverbs and two verbs together, as well as their translation skills.

What knowledge and competencies will be assessed?

All four skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) will be assessed through a mixture of informal classroom activities and more formal assessments. Knowledge of vocabulary and specific grammatical structures will be assessed through regular quizzing.

How will this unit be assessed? Translation tasks (French-English, English-French) Listening/reading comprehension tasks Speaking assessment

When will this take place?

Assessment is ongoing in every lesson and teacher feedback will take place regularly. Student progress relative to GCSE grades will be assessed every half term.

Helpful further reading/discussion

We would encourage you to ask students to report back on their lessons and encourage them to share their learning and progress. Please encourage students to watch French films and to support their learning with relevant fiction and non-fiction material that focusses on this language.

How can parents help at home?

Please encourage students to practise their French vocabulary at home. Practice of key words is essential to progress, the more opportunity to do this the better.

Subject Information Year 9

Subject Area Term Maths Spring 1 Topics: Ratio and Proportion; Perimeter, area and circumference; real-life equations Content To begin the spring term the students will deepen their understanding and knowledge of measures of proportion by looking at using ratios. In our shape topic we will be exploring properties and rules for 2D shapes with plenty of opportunity for challenge by integrating algebra and Pythagoras’ theorem. We finish by applying algebra to real-life circumstances; taking a scenario and evaluating it algebraically whilst making attempts to visualise these with graphs. What knowledge and competencies will be assessed? Key Knowledge Checkpoints ● Divide a given quantity into two parts in a given part:part or part:whole ratio; express the division of a quantity into two parts as a ratio; apply ratio to real contexts and problems ● Know the formulae: circumference of a circle, area of a circle, calculate perimeters of 2D shapes, including circles areas of circles ● Plot and interpret graphs, and graphs of non-standard functions in real contexts, to find approximate solutions to problems such as simple kinematic problems involving distance, speed and acceleration including reciprocal and exponential graphs How will this unit be assessed? When will this take place? Exam style assessment End of half term Book marking According to policy Helpful further reading/discussion BBC bitesize website AQA revision guide How can parents help at home? Subject Area Maths Topics: Scatter Graphs, Probability, Standard Form

Term Spring 2

Content In this half term we will learn how to confidently use charts to compare more than one data point, whilst doing this we will learn a lot more about correlation. In our probability module we will look to expand on what we learnt in KS3 and begin to look at different ways of representing and calculating multiple probabilities for multiple events. We have looked at writing and translating standard form in year 8, we will now look at how indices calculations occur and how this impacts calculating with standard form. What knowledge and competencies will be assessed? Key Knowledge Checkpoints ● Use and interpret scatter graphs of bivariate data recognise correlation know that it does not indicate causation draw estimated lines of best fit make predictions interpolate and extrapolate apparent trends whilst knowing the dangers of so doing ● Apply ideas of randomness, fairness and equally likely events to calculate expected outcomes of multiple future experiments ● Calculate with and interpret standard form How will this unit be assessed?
