20.5 code of practice for affiliates

VCA approval to conduct a fixture is on the understanding that the affiliate will endeavour to conduct and manage the fixture ensuring that the activities are an enjoyable experience for all members and that the fixture represents a public showcase of VCA activities. In particular: 20.5.1 The affiliate is to ensure that ANKC judges contracts are completed fully and reflect all of the affiliate’s requirements, especially in relation to embargoes. 20.5.2 The show secretary is to ensure that contracted conformation judges are notified of the number of exhibits entered for each breed. Such notification is to be communicated in writing so as to reach the judges at least seven days before the date of the show. 20.5.3. The affiliate committee is to ensure that non Australian judges are briefed on the VCA and ANKC procedures for judging. 20.5.4. Affiliate committee personnel involved in facilitating judges shall not handle dogs under those judges nor participate at the competition area in such a way as to compromise the perception of fairness. 20.5.5 The show secretary is to ensure that entry fees are banked promptly to ensure that invalid cheques / payments are identified. 20.5.6 The show manager is to ensure that all stewards are competent in the duties required of them, and arrange appropriate support where necessary. 20.5.7. The affiliate is to ensure adequate provision for and maintenance of parking, toilets, foodstuffs [if applicable], first aid, competition and exhibitor areas. 20.5.8 The affiliate is to ensure that safe and unimpeded access is provided around and to the rings. 20.5.9 The affiliate committee is to appoint a VCA representative as required by VCA regulations and provide the administrative and logistic support required by VCA procedures - fixture incidents / complaints. 20.5.10 Aggressive dog incidents are to be dealt with in accordance with VCA regulation 3.5.6. 20.5.11 The affiliate committee is to ensure that persons attending the fixture comply with acceptable standards of behaviour, and therefore the committee is to be fully conversant with the VCA procedures - fixture incidents / complaints.

5. A judge is required to be punctual in availability to fulfil their judging assignment. 6. If in the judging procedures an exhibit displays an obvious physical impediment or is unable to be handled or can be regarded as savage or vicious the exhibit should be excused from the ring. 7. A judge shall not enter or exhibit any dog at any show or other exhibition at which he/she is appointed to judge. 8. Should an exhibitor offer information to the judge that may be regarded as designed to influence the judge, the judge shall excuse the exhibitor and their exhibit from the ring and/or record the incident in the judges’ book. 9. Should a judge be approached to favour or disfavour a particular exhibit the matter is to be reported to the administrator of the state or territory member body. 10. Should a judge be approached with an inducement and/or bribe to advantage or disadvantage an exhibit the judge is to report the matter in writing to the administrator of the state or territory member body. 11. A judge shall not solicit a judging appointment. 12. A judge shall not solicit or seek entry of any particular dog or dogs. 13. A judge shall not allow entries for a show at which that person is judging to be received at the judge’s address. 14. A judge shall complete all the requirements of the judging contract speedily and straight forwardly. Any verbal acceptance of an assignment by a judge shall be subject to the receipt of the contract within fourteen (14) days. 15. At the time of completing a contract the judge shall inform the inviting body of any disability or limitation that could restrict carrying out in full the reasonable handling of all exhibits to be judged. 16. A judge shall avoid duplicating assignments in the same breed within a minimum of three months of each other and within a minimum of a 200 kilometre radius of championship shows, open shows and parades. 10/97 17. A judge shall honour each contract and is not free to accept an alternative contract that will affect his or her availability to fulfil the original contract except with the written dispensation of the contracting club. 5/98 18. Accommodation provided to the judge to fulfil an assignment is for the judge only except where prior mutual agreement has been reached with the sponsoring body for variation. 19. A judge shall be responsible for the cost of all personal telephone calls, alcoholic beverages and any personal laundering except where mutual agreement has been reached with the sponsoring body at the time the contract is accepted. 20. A judge who withdraws from any contracted appointment for any reason shall not be permitted to judge at any other canine event wherever held on any date that would prevent him/her from attending the originally contracted event, unless dispensation has been granted in accordance with Clause 17. 5/9 20

A judge shall give every entry and handler a fair and equal opportunity. 3. Judges shall show courtesy whilst carrying out each judging appointment. 4. Judges shall be punctual in fulfilling their judging appointment. 5. A judge shall present himself/herself in attire that is appropriate and comfortable for each judging appointment. 6. If an entry displays an obvious physical impediment that, in the judge’s opinion would be detrimental to the entry’s health or is unable to be handled or is deemed to be aggressive, the entry should be excused from the trial and reported as per the regulations. 7. A judge shall not enter any dog at any stake at which he/ she is appointed to judge. 8. A judge shall not judge any member of their immediate family (whether they reside in the same household or not) in any stake at which the judge is officiating. 9. A judge shall not solicit a judging appointment. 10. A judge shall not solicit or seek the entry of any particular dog or dogs at a trial at which the judge is officiating. 11. A judge shall not allow entries for a trial, at which that person is judging, to be received at the judge’s address and/or be processed at the judge’s address. 12. Judges shall promptly complete all requirements of the judging contract. Any verbal acceptance of an appointment by a judge shall be subject to the receipt of the contract within fourteen (14) days. 13. At the time of completing a contract the judge shall inform the inviting body of any disability or limitation that would restrict him or help in carrying out the appointment. 14. A judge shall honour each contract and is not free to accept an alternative contract that will affect his/her availability to fulfil the original contract, except with the written dispensation of the contracting body. 15.
