CURRENT GOALS Communication and Community

Exceeds job requirements

Due Date: 6/30/2015 Weight: 30% Description: Focus on improved communication and community support. Measurement: 1. Increase the use of the parent portal and a Valhalla UFSD application.2. Support volunteerism for students, staff, parents and community members.   

Successful launch of app; greater use of parent portal; new volunteer service award announced. The Valhalla App and parent portal have been successfully launched and well received. The district makes good use of social media as a communication tool. Board members are visible and accessible at community and school events. The new volunteer service award will bring needed recognition to deserving members of the community. I feel we use every form of contact we can find. We are truly trying to involve every member of the community.

Facilities

Exceeds job requirements

Due Date: 6/30/2015 Weight: 30% Description: Ensure facilities are safe, secure and current Measurement: Develop a capital construction project to take to the voters. Identify and prioritize facilities in need of capital improvement. 

 

The district has done a great job in completing recent projects on time and budget building trust in the community and proving students with an improved educational environment. There are multiple priorities and associated projects that need to be funded completed during the next 3-5 years. Careful planning and communication will be a must in order to be successful in this area. We are not looking to be the preeminent facility in the county. We want the best facility for the dollar spent. We want all corners of the campus to be used and taken care of. If something is underutilized or not used… we need to evaluate the best way to maximize the facility. There are still classrooms that require re-organization, and I would like to bring “shop” back to our district corresponding to our future “STEM” planning. Shop space requires renovation.

Students First

Exceeds job requirements

Due Date: 6/30/2015 Weight: 40% Description: Place students first when making all decisions and setting priorities. Measurement: Increase the number of BOE presentations regarding student programs. Participate in Learning Cafés and school events.  

These two measurements were met by the Board. 20% project presentations were a welcome addition to a BOE meeting at the end of the year, and Learning Cafes provide a great forum for discussion and questions. We have a good mix of student programs at Board meetings and do not feel we need to increase the amount.

  

All decisions are measured by this simple statement – “does it put our students first.” Student presentations at BOE meeting is a good thing for all involved, I feel that every decision we make is influenced by the Students. I feel that we are not reaching all of the kids in our district / we’ve made wonderful changes for technology driven kids but not every child wants to sit behind a desk and work on a computer - there’s a large amount of students that need something more hand on driven – I would like to see our shop space being utilized instead of wasted and not make it just a “how to operate a power tool” environment – it could be tied into and promote a STEM environment that will make kids career ready or give them a foundation to build-on for a trade / engineering / science future of interest.
