To Be and To Make Disciples of Christ

Attention all B-Street Women! Today and next Sunday, a women’s ministry survey will be distributed during all four worship services. Those organizing this project request that the survey be completed before worship concludes and then given to the women by the doors who will collect them. The survey can also be completed electronically (www.bsumc.info/womens-ministry-survey). As previously announced, the Archives Committee has been cleaning up and out. This is the last day that items can be reviewed and taken. Items include pictures (some may be of you or your family), copies of Continuing Our Legacy II containing member interviews and our church’s history, and past church directories. The committee is striving to better organize the Archives Room, and any left over items will be discarded. Bread for the World’s Offering of Letters aims to realize a world in which all of God’s children are fed. Our goal is to create political will by writing our policy makers, urging them to create pathways out of hunger and poverty. Join the Missions and Outreach Commission today and next Sunday from 8:30 AM until noon in Orders Parlor as we write letters to our Congress. For more information, visit www.bread.org/OL.

Stewardship Thought

Did you prepare yourself today to be a living sacrifice to God? What kind of sacrifice does God want? How is your stewardship of God’s creation sacrificed? Each Sunday we present ourselves at God’s altar. We pray for God’s mercy that we and our gifts are acceptable.

Prayer of General Confession Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Time of silent prayer.) Pardon Hear the good news: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. The Lord of heaven and earth and sea, who gave his life on Calvary, attends this feast with me, this sacred feast with me. Now as I take this bread, this wine, the hope of heaven may yet be mine, though I unworthy be. The rose that blooms within the bower is now more blessed than I this hour, its beauty no more rare than every prayer that leaves this place, in search of God’s unerring grace, to find him waiting there. O, Lord of heaven and earth and sea, you gave your life for even me. You shall not die in vain. For as I kneel before your throne, I make my heart and will your own, and yours I will remain.

2 Corinthians 5:16-21 “The Habit of Witnessing”

Blessed are you, O God, who with your Word and Holy Spirit has created all things and called them good. From the earth you bring forth bread and create the fruit of the vine. You formed us in your image, delivered us from captivity, and made covenant to be our sovereign God. You fed us manna in the wilderness, and gave grapes to evidence the promised land. And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ, in whom your word became flesh and came to dwell among us. Through Jesus’ suffering and death you destroyed the power of sin and death. You raised from the dead this same Jesus, who now reigns with you in glory, and poured upon us your Holy Spirit, making us the people of your new covenant. On the night before meeting with death Jesus took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” When the supper was over Jesus took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Pour out your Holy Spirit on us, gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine. Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that in unity we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by Christ’s blood, until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at your table forever. Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty God, now and forever. Amen. The ushers will direct the congregation to the table.
