Second Vatican Council Teaching Point: Full, Conscious, Active Participation in the Liturgy It is very much the wish of the church that all the faithful should be led to take full, conscious, and active part in liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy, and to which the Christian people, “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a redeemed people” (1 Pet 2:9,4-5) have a right and to which they are bound by reason of their Baptism. (Sacrosanctum Concilium #14) Mission: As a Christ centered family of faith, Holy Redeemer is a Catholic community that shares our Godgiven gifts. We welcome all while praying, teaching and serving the people God sends to us. Eucharist: Sunday – 8:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m. Monday – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday – 8:30 a.m. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament – 9-9 Wednesday – 12:05 p.m. Thursday – 7:00 p.m. Friday – 8:30 a.m. Saturday – 5:00 p.m. Sacrament of Reconciliation: Monday – 6:30-6:45 p.m. Saturday – 4:00-4:30 p.m.

Baptism: Baptisms are scheduled through the parish office. Parents are expected to participate in the baptism preparation program. Marriage: Engaged couples are expected to begin marriage preparation at least six months in advance. Weddings are not scheduled until after an initial meeting with the pastor. Couples are strongly urged not to reserve halls before having a firm church date and time. New Parishioners: Our faith community gladly welcomes new members. Please register in the parish office.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK – In the movie Million Dollar Baby, Clint Eastwood plays the role of Frankie, a veteran boxing trainer who is coming to the end of his career. A struggling but sincere Catholic, Frankie attends daily Mass, and has lots of questions about faith. In one scene of the movie, he approaches the parish priest after Mass and tells him that he doesn’t understand the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. “What about the whole one God, three God thing? Isn’t it like Snap, Krackle and Pop all in one box?” Clearly agitated by Frankie’s Rice Krispies analogy, the priest gruffly responds, “Frankie, most people learn by kindergarten that it’s a matter of faith.” The mystery of the Holy Trinity is just that – a matter of faith. Without God having revealed this teaching of faith to us, we would never have come to recognize it. And yet, we can still have a greater than kindergarten understanding of the Trinity. It is the one Christian mystery that encompasses all the other mysteries of faith. Incarnation, Resurrection, Ascension, Pentecost – you name it – all of them are subsumed into the one doctrine of the Holy Trinity. And even though we can never make perfect sense of this mystery, we can still gather insight. The doctrine of the Trinity tells us that God is perfectly united as one and yet also a communion of Persons. It tells us that that bond of Persons is no less than perfect love. And it tells us that that this same love of the Trinity has been poured into our lives and our world. Turns out, we are never alone because God is never alone. We live in community – imperfect as it is – and it is within the community of the church in which we grow in the spirit of God’s trinitarian love.

GRATEFUL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION – Our faith tells us of the great suffering and humiliation Jesus endured for our sake and the everlasting gift of the Holy Eucharist, given to us as a result of His death on the cross. But yet, the Lord’s Eucharistic presence in the tabernacle is all too easily neglected. It begs the question: Can I be more thankful to God in my daily life? Did you know that one cherished and most powerful way to express our gratitude to the One who has redeemed us is to spend time with Him before the Blessed Sacrament? The people of Holy Redeemer are tremendously blessed to have the opportunity to express their gratitude to Jesus EVERY TUESDAY in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. If we only knew how much Jesus rejoices at this time spent with Him, we would weep for all the missed opportunities. Jesus promises us everlasting happiness in Heaven for every moment on earth spent in His Eucharistic Presence. “Where your treasure is, there is your heart.” (Lk 12:34) For more information about Eucharistic Adoration, please call Diane Bensman at 419629-3432.
