Just Weeks to Cool!

Dear Parish family, Well it is just one week to Memorial Day, the traditional deadline for just about every east end trade trying to make homes and cottages ready for the summer. I join the anxious crowd this year looking forward to the initialization of our air conditioning! From the beginning the target date for this project was Memorial Day and right now it looks as if we will be just a few days late. Our construction crews are aiming for May 30 for first turn on of the system. Anyone who has undertaken a large project like this will easily realize that a few days late is not bad at all. When we moved back to church after our sojourn in the auditorium, I asked everyone to pray that we would have nice mid-sixties temperatures all through May. God smiled and laughed at us. May has been too cool even to plant tomatoes! The small consolation is that the space heaters that have been warming our church are still using less than half the energy of our now retired steam boiler. So yes, the first cool summer in 107 years is now in sight. A welcome amenity, especially for our growing number of summer weddings and baptisms! On another front we are also moving forward very well on our rest room project. The interior and exterior of the new vestibule have been carefully designed to match both the exterior and interior of the church. A lot of careful carpentry has gone into this project and the results will be well worth it. This will not be just a functional addition but one that looks like it has been here from the beginning. I can’t guess the exact date of completion on this but it is only a few weeks away. Whatever the summer of 2016 brings us, we will be ready. Not just here in our church but also in the programs we are planning. Check back here soon for a list of summer concerts, summer talks, and other events to bring us all together. My gratitude to all of you who love and share in the mission of our church.

Sincerely your in Christ,

Rev. Michael A. Vetrano, Pastor

Reflections On the Gospel

It has always been standard Catholic teaching that the Trinity is a mystery. St. Patrick tried to make it more understandable by comparing it to the shamrock with its one stem and three leaves. Contemporary teaching focuses on relationship, the relationships among the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with each other and with us. But there might be other ways to try to help us get our minds around this mystery. We all carry multiple identities ourselves. You may be mother, daughter, and sister, or you may be teacher, neighbor, and friend. To different people you may even have different names: Joe, Joseph, Joey. Needless to say, this isn’t the same as the Holy Trinity, but it does offer an example of being one person who is known in a variety of ways, who is related to in a variety of ways, and who relates those various ways into one YOU. If we can be so multifaceted, why do we find it so hard to recognize God as Three in One? Rather, let us rejoice that God has found so many wonderful ways to be present to each of us. Let us celebrate Trinity Sunday as a triune gift!

Our Lady of the Hamptons

The combined choral groups at Our Lady of the Hamptons the 31 member elite girls’ Hamptones and the 25 boys’ show choir, the Hamptonix, presented a joint concert at the school. APOSTOLADO HISPANO
