THE MOST HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY May 22, 2016

Trinity Sunday Companies spend a lot of money on advertising because it works. And those ads are everywhere—on television, radio, phones, web pages, billboards, and newspapers. They influence what people buy, how people dress, and how they speak. They can influence what people think, what they value and what is right and wrong. Effective ads can sell merchandize, or change voters’ minds, or teach lessons about morals, values and ideals. The Apostles have a difficult mission and they will not always be welcome in places they preach. They will face much resistance to the Gospel message, and at times opposing voices will compete for people’s attention. The confusion and uncertainty of the times and of the message will need to be addressed. Jesus promises that the Spirit of Truth will guide them to all truth. Shadows of doubt and fear will be overcome with the light of knowledge and faith. They will not be left alone. What guides your life? What has the greatest influence? Where do you spend your time? What voice rises above all the others to influence your decisions, form your values and inform your conscience? Media has an agenda and it is not your well-being. But the Spirit of Truth guides us all. Listen closely. In the depths of your soul and in whisperings in your heart, you know what God asks of you and what you need to do to be closer to Him. Listen carefully to the voice that leads to life! James Gaffney

SAINT LUKE THE EVANGELIST CHURCH “St. Luke’s donates 10% of its weekly collection through Sharing First . We donate to others before attending to our own wants. Sharing First is unique not only because there is one collection each week, but that we help the needy first. Please adjust your donation to include both Sharing First and St. Luke’s. Thank you for your generous support. May 15, 2016 supports ST. ANNE'S FREE MEDICAL PROGRAM in the amount of $1,439 May 22, 2016 (today) supports ORPHANAGE & THE DIOCESE OF WORCESTER HAITIAN APOSTOLATE MINISTRY . May 29, 2016 supports " St. John’s Church, Food for the Poor Program For many in the Worcester Diocese, hunger is a daily struggle. At St. John’s Church, the Food for the Poor Program provides hot, nutritious breakfast meals to over 125 people a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Because of the ever -increasing need, they have set a goal to serve 250 people per day, or 65,000 meals annually. Each year the FREE food pantry distributes approximately 10,400 “to-go” packages, and yet there is always a shortage. St. John’s mission is founded on the belief that - no man, woman, or child should ever be hungry. They are committed to reaching the 1.2 million dollar fund raising goal for the construction of a new soup kitchen and FREE food pantry on the property adjacent to the church and rectory. Through the hard work and kind donations of local corporations and individuals, St. John’s Food for the Poor Program will be sustained for many years to come. St. Luke the Evangelist parish has long supported this essential program and our continued generosity is greatly appreciated now, more that ever. Expanding St. John’s Food for the Poor Program in the Future Worcester's poor and homeless - men, women, and children - depend on the services and food provided by St. John's Food for the Poor Program. St. John’s Church is working to build a new soup kitchen and FREE food pantry on the property adjacent to the church and rectory.

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY FOR SINGERS ~ PLEASE JOIN US!

NEW ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED!!!!! As we thank our graduating seniors for their years of service and wish them well, and head into the summer vacation months, we are in urgent need of new Altar Servers, currently in grades 2-11 to join this important ministry. Students are assigned to a team that serves together every 4 weeks on a rotating schedule. Training is provided, as well as "on the job" coaching by the team leader. Students who have received their First Holy Eucharist are eligible to join this ministry, and we also need new students in the middle school and high school grades to join and be trained as team leaders.

St. Luke’s has several openings for volunteer Cantors. We are looking for good singers who are willing to stand in front of the congregation and prayerfully lead the singing during Masses. Openings are available at almost all Masses. In this wonderful Ministry, you can share your musical gifts with the community at large, inviting them to sing and supporting the music of all. We welcome High School age and above; all instruction will be given to learn the fine art of Cantoring. Call Ellen Linn (508) 366-5502 for an audition. This is a great opportunity to learn to perform a Ministry that you can use anywhere you go. Please join us!

Please contact Pete Dunbeck or Sue Kelley at 508366-7517 or [email protected] to be added to the schedule and notified of the upcoming training. Thank you!

MOST HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY “But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth...” (JOHN 16:13) Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us know and live the truth. To prepare ourselves, we need to open our hearts to receive this gift before we can give it. Develop a daily prayer routine to ask the Holy Spirit to help guide our thoughts and actions.
