This is probably true of Jersey. Most of my baptisms are of children born of parents who are not married!

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE MINISTRY COORDINATOR

The Catholic Church in Jersey wishes to support Marriage and Family Life in a very practical way and will appoint a co-ordinator for this important ministry. This is a full time post, commencing in September 2015 and the successful candidate will facilitate opportunities to help parents and families engage with the Church to grow in faith and in their own relationships. This new post is in keeping with the Bishop’s vision for supporting marriage through enabling Catholics to explore the rich teaching of the Church about this sacrament, including natural family planning. Applicants must be willing to gain the Fertility Practitioner qualification, and will work closely with clergy and other lead catechists. LITURGY AND SACRAMENTS HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY

Tuesday 27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day. Fr Nicholas, Fr Janusz and Deacon Iain will be present at the ceremony in St Helier at 1pm, The usual Tuesday Exposition at 7pm, at St Bernadette, on that day will be dedicated to prayer in remembrance of the millions of people murdered and those affected by the Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. The theme is, 'Keep the memory alive'. MASS FOR CONSECRATED LIFE

Mass for the ‘Year of Consecrated Life’ will be celebrated on the Feast Day of the Presentation of the Lord and will take place at the Chapel of the Little Sisters on Monday 2 February at 11am. Following the Mass, the Little Sisters invite all present to attend a lunch which will take place in the hall. Please note that there will be no Mass celebrated at Our Lady, St Martin that day. Next weekend is National Education Sunday. There will be a second collection to support the work of our states school catechists and the money will be used for resources for the children throughout the year.

On Thursday 29 January to carry out the next assignment the Bishop has given them in their own formation for the re-direction of the diocese towards the New Evangelisation. They will be planning to launch the “Evangelisation Strategy Team” which is to be made up of clergy, religious and laity. This will be launched at the beginning of February. THE SECULAR FRANCISCAN ORDER

The Secular Franciscan Order (SFO) is the oldest secular Order in the Church and was founded by St Francis of Assisi. For those Catholics who may be interested in following in the spirituality of St Francis, an exploratory meeting will take place on Thursday 5 February at 7.30pm at the presbytery at Our Lady, St Martin. This weekend the presbytery will be closed for redecoration. Therefore children’s liturgy is cancelled as are refreshments after this Sunday morning’s Mass. SICK CLERGY

SPIRIT ON THE ROCK 25/26 APRIL 2015 –

Once again we are planning for our annual youth weekend based at St Mary & St Peter’s Church and Beaulieu School. This is open to all young people from year 7+ up to young adults. Each year we grow in numbers and can never manage to cope without the wonderful support and help we receive from our church community. We are again looking for volunteer adults to help in the following areas:  Catering teams for lunch, dinner, supper and breakfast.  Transport and supervision of talks and workshops.  Overnight supervision and security.  Registration teams.  Overnight supervision of the Blessed Sacrament in the Beaulieu Chapel.  Help with sponsorship, donations of food or other such material support. It is also a way of ALL children and young people taking an active part in church life.

JaCy 57’s is a fun group meeting every Friday at 5pm - 7pm in the Youth Room St Thomas. It is aimed at school years 5-7. As well as friendship, games and food we take time to pray and reflect together on the coming Sunday’s Gospel. Parents this is a great way to support your children in growing in faith. PLEASE parents consider making this a priority in your child’s schedule. Food and drinks are available such as pizza, chips, jacket potato. We also accept year 4 children who are on a Holy Communion programme.
