Vorwort/vorwort Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen, Liebe Gestalter, Architekten, Künstler, geehrte Kuratoren, Direktoren, Studierende, Szenografen und Szenografie Interessierte Dear Colleagues, Dear Designers, Architects, Artists, Dear Curators, Directors, Entrepreneurs, Dear Students and Scenographers

Die dritte Ausgabe des International Scenographers‘ Festival IN3 2010 in Basel ist diesmal ganz dem Thema des Ausstellens gewidmet – «Exhibit! Scenography in Exhibition Design» ist Aufforderung und Programm zugleich. An vier Tagen werden die unterschiedlichen Aspekte des Gestaltens, Ausstellens und der Realisierung von Ausstellungen verhandelt. Dazu haben wir eine Vielzahl international renommierter Gäste eingeladen, die ihre jeweils eigene Sicht auf das Ausstellen vortragen und diskutieren werden. Zudem werden im Rahmen des Festivals zwei IN3 Workshops vorgestellt und erstmals im Rahmen der IN3 Challenge ein Preis für angehende Szenografinnen und Szenografen verliehen. Es würde uns freuen, wenn wir Ihr Interesse am 3rd International Scenographers‘ Festival IN3 2010 geweckt haben und Sie uns vom 2. bis 5. Dezember 2010 in Basel besuchen kommen. The third edition of the International Scenographers‘ Festival IN3 2010 is dedicated entirely to the topic of exhibiting. “Exhibit! Scenography in Exhibition Design” is destination and program at the same time. The four days festival will debate various aspects of designing, exhibiting and the 4

executing of exhibitions. Due to this year’s claim we invited about sixty internationally recommended professionals to share their experiences in exhibiting and to discuss the visions of this cultural format. Furthermore two IN3 Workshops will be presented at the festival and within the context of the IN3 Challenge –  announced for the first time – we will be happy to award rookies among scenographers. KulturmatadorInnen diskutieren in der Festivalarena. Authenticity and arrogance of the culture format “museum”. Did the museum veer away from the visitor or the makers from the format or the designers from time – which distinctive properties does a museum of the 21st century need besides selfpromotion? Culture matadors discuss in the festival arena.

Erschaffung eines neutralen (Präsentations-) Raumes oder Inszenierung von (re)kontextualsierenden Raumbildern? Die elementarsten Inhalte einer Ausstellung sind die Exponate. Für den Kurator sind es Relikte, die es zu hüten und zu bewahren gilt, für den Wissenschaftler kulturhaltige Forschungsobjekte und für den Ausstellungsgestalter/Szenografen geht es darum, sie zum Sprechen zu bringen, einen Zugang zu schaffen, sie in den Dialog mit dem Betrachter zu versetzen. Austellungsgestalter positionieren sich und ihre Projekte in diesem Spannungsfeld. Creation of a neutral (presentation)-spaces or staging of (re)contextualised spatial images? The most elementary contents of an exhibition are the exhibits themselves. To curators they are relics to be protected and preserved, to researchers they are cultural objects of study and the exhibition designer/scenograph to open a dialogue with the visitors. Exhibition designers position themselves within these diverse contexts.

Szenografie findet in der Öffentlichkeit statt und ist die Kunst, eine Erzählung zum Zwecke der Anschauung mit räumlichen Mitteln zur dramatisierenden Aufführung zu bringen, indem Objekte, Umgebungen oder Darstellungen mit vielfältigen Mitteln zu Atmosphären oder Milieus für Erfahrungen arrangiert werden. Mit welchen didaktischen Konzepten lässt sich Studierenden dieses Schaffen von Milieus für Erfahrungen vermitteln, gerade wenn der Ort ihrer Aufführung der öffentliche Raum selbst ist? Scenography takes place in public. It can be defined as the art of creating a dramatised staging of a narrative with physical /spatial means for descriptive purposes. Hereby, objects, environments and representations are arranged into moods or experiential environments. What didactic tools can help to convey this creation of experiential environments to students, especially with the site of representation being public space itself?
