Stewardship Commitment Weekend During the month of November we are invited to reflect on God’s gifts and how we can respond with generous and joyful lives. Stewardship is Discipleship — following Jesus Christ with our hearts, souls, minds and strength. Last weekend was Accountability Weekend when parishioners offered their reflections on being stewards in our parish family of St. John’s. The bulletin last week and this week features a summary of how we have used our financial resources. We hope that it helps members of the parish understand our current situation. With the help of the Finance Committee, Father Frank is working at trimming our budget (in some cases, as much as 20%) so that we can pay our bills this year. This past week a mailing was sent to the homes of parishioners which includes a letter from Father Frank, a snapshot of some of our parish activities, and a Commitment Card with prepaid return envelope. We are all asked to reflect quietly and prayerfully how how we respond to God’s goodness to us. We may be able to Take-a-Step in our prayer, worship service, and our parish giving. Commitment Cards will be in the pews this weekend and can be filled out while you are in church. Please return your commitment card by placing it in the Special Box in the Gathering Area, in the collection basket, or by mailing it back to the parish in the return envelope from your mailing. Let’s pray for everyone in our parish family, that we may all be joyful disciples, good stewards!!

Advent Meeting of All Eucharistic Ministers Our new pastor, Fr. Frank, is calling all of us to a meeting Monday, December 5th, at 7:00 p.m. in the church. Following the guidance of the Pastoral Council and the Worship Group, the sanctuary of the church will be decorated differently and it calls for change in some of our procedures. Please make every effort to attend! We want to make sure that all EM’s learn the new procedures so that our parish family is at its very best for Christmas and 150 Baskets Distributed

Teens and Young Adults as Readers at Mass The Pastoral Council is working hard on finding ways to make our Youth feel more at home in our parish family. While the Council discerns the shape of a more formal Youth Ministry, the Council is urging the Pastoral Staff and all our ministries to invite teenagers to be involved. With this in mind, all teens and young adults are encouraged to think about becoming a reader at Mass, and/or our Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Our teens will be part of our regular schedule, and serve about once a month. John O’Hare, coordinator of our readers, will be happy to offer some training to prepare them for this ministry!

Fr. Frank’s Reflections from Last Sunday November 13, 2016

The readings point us in the direction of the Last Things, the “end of the world,” reminding us that we live in a fragile world, dependent on God’s grace and our own care for Creation. We are all concerned about the world that we pass on to our children, and Jesus’ predictions of natural disasters, wars and famines ring true to us two thousand years later. Yes, the world as we know it will come to an end. There are also times in all our lives when our world comes to an end, when it is hard to recognize our own life anymore. This happened to me and my family twenty years ago today when my Mom died suddenly. She was only sixty years old. For my Dad and for all of us the world as we knew and loved it ended. And we really haven’t gotten over it. Our world just isn’t the same. At that terribly hard time for my family, our home parish of St. Patrick, Smithtown, was there to hold us and walk with us. My Mom was very involved in the parish, and we felt such love and support from our parish family. St. Patrick parish family took care of my Dad, too, for the years that lay ahead for him. Last week we reflected together about our wish to make St. John the Baptist a strong parish family. We are all called to be joyful disciples and to build up our parish with our time, talent and treasure. Today at each mass we hear from members of our parish family and their reflections on Stewardship. [A parishioner was invited up to share her/ his reflections with us.]
