THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME FAITH The necessity of faith. Believing in Jesus Christ and in the One who sent Him for our salvation is necessary for obtaining that salvation. "Since "without faith it is impossible to please [God]" and to attain to the fellowship of His sons, therefore without faith no one has ever attained justification, nor will anyone obtain eternal life 'But he who endures to the end.'" Perseverance in faith. Faith is an entirely free gift that God makes to man. We can lose this priceless gift, as St. Paul indicated to St. Timothy: "Wage the good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting conscience, certain persons have made shipwreck of their faith." To live, grow and persevere in the faith until the end we must nourish it with the word of God; we must beg the Lord to increase our faith; it must be "working through charity," abounding in hope, and rooted in the faith of the Church. Faith - the beginning of eternal life. Faith makes us taste in advance the light of the beatific vision, the goal of our journey here below. Then we shall see God "face to face", "as he is". So faith is already the beginning of eternal life: When we contemplate the blessings of faith even now, as if gazing at a reflection in a mirror, it is as if we already possessed the wonderful things which our faith assures us we shall one day enjoy. Now, however, "we walk by faith, not by sight"; we perceive God as "in a mirror, dimly" and only "in part". Even though enlightened by Him in Whom it believes, faith is often lived in darkness and can be put to the test. The world we live in often seems very far from the one promised us by faith. Our experiences of evil and suffering, injustice and death, seem to contradict the Good News; they can shake our faith and become a temptation against it. It is then we must turn to the witnesses of faith: to Abraham, who "in hope… believed against hope"; to the Virgin Mary, who, in "her pilgrimage of faith", walked into the "night of faith" in sharing the darkness of her Son's suffering and death; and to so many others: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith." Catechism of the Catholic Church #161-165. THE SANCTUARY LAMPS THIS WEEK BURN FOR: The Ahlowalia & Ulahannan Families ADORATION OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT will start at 6 p.m. starting in the months of July and August. PLEASE NOTE Holy Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Parish office is closed on Monday. SEVEN OFFERINGS OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD

OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL (begins July 7th) Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity. (Mention your request here) There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. (3 times). Holy Mary, I place this prayer in your hands. (3 times). Amen.

JULY 1, 2012 REMINDER that as we enter into the summer season, let us remember that the Church is God’s house and that modest attire should be worn at all times in this sacred place. The Catechism of the Catholic Church #1378 teaches us: “to prepare for worthy reception of this Sacrament, the faithful should observe the fast required…. Bodily demeanour (gestures, clothing) ought to convey the respect, solemnity and joy of this moment when Christ becomes our guest. CELEBRATING THE YEAR OF FAITH On October 11th, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, the Church will begin the observance of the Year of Faith. To commemorate this event, Mass will be offered at 7 p.m. We also invite you to join us in reading St. Augustine’s Confessions, the account of his personal journey of faith. This book is the first autobiography ever written and is both a spiritual and a literary classic. We will meet every second Wednesday beginning October 17th to March 6th in the Parish Hall. Two seminar times are available: 1:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Registration fee: $20. To register or for further information, please call the parish office. PARISH MISSION next weekend Fr. Tom Vermiglio will be coming next weekend to preach at all the Masses to ask for help for their missions. He was ordained a Comboni Missionary Priest 39 years ago. The first five years of his priesthood he worked in East Africa, teaching secondary school and doing parish ministry. For the next 13 years he worked in the U.S. and Canada doing vocation and mission promotion. In 1990 he returned to Kenya for three more years of parish ministry, in the slum area of Nairobi Kenya. From 1993 until 2006 Fr. Tom did mission promotion and parish work again in the U.S. and Canada. At the present time Fr. Tom is doing parish ministry at St. Joseph Church in Kitchener, ON. TWO HEARTS ROSARY PRAYER GROUP invites everyone to pray the 4 mysteries of the Rosary on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. in the Church. CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD for children 3‐7 yrs old. A Montessori approach to learning about our faith. Tuesday or Saturday sessions begin in October. For those interested, see our specially designed room & materials at the north end of our parish hall. To pre‐register or for info, please call Anita at 905‐508‐9275. Space is limited. OUR LADY’S PSALTER: The Rosary of the Mystery of Christ, A More Ancient Form of the Rosary by Fr. Marco Testa is available at the Parish Office. This volume, reminiscent of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, contains the oldest rosary clausulae in Latin and their English counterparts. Since this form of prayer aims to lead towards contemplation of the Mystery of Christ, the quantity of prayers is not what matters. It is for you to determine the number of themes you wish to contemplate. This ancient form of the Rosary is eminently suited to the observance of the Year of Faith. PRECIOUS BLOOD DEVOTION at St. Joseph the Worker Church. All are welcome to keep Our Lord company every Thursday from 10 pm to 1 am in the Adoration Chapel.
