Women's Institute Our mission is to provide opportunities for our students to explore and grow, both personally and professionally. We recognize there are lots of ways to get information today. Our students come to Women’s Institute classes because they want more than just information from the learning experience. These short, noncredit classes focus on skills that are learned best through instruction offering immediate feedback and personal attention. Our goal is for you to develop confidence in your newfound skills so you really can use them in everyday life. As you browse through this brochure, you’ll notice the wide variety of classes we offer. Whether you are looking for ideas on what to do in your leisure time or techniques to develop your business skills, you’ll find those and more at the Women’s Institute. MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS JO ALLMAN has taught Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) techniques for AACC since 2006. She received her training at American University in Washington, D.C., and is certified by Training for Life as a personal safety instructor.

ROSIE GOLLEHON holds a Bachelor in Tourism from Heilbronn University in Germany. She shares her passion in the joy of traveling through workshops and with her clients at Best Connection Travel in Annapolis.

PAM BLUM is the group fitness director at Evolutions in Annapolis. She’s a registered yoga teacher, certified by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) as a group fitness instructor and a master trainer in Spinning and Resist-a-Ball.

MONICA BROWN is a chartered financial consultant with 20 years of experience in financial services. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s in financial services, and is a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.

RUTH CAPPIANCO is the founder and administrator of Collage of Voice, teaching individual and group vocal lessons. Along with being the vocal director for a variety of local theater productions, she also has taught music in schools throughout the area.

LINDA DE ANDRADE has been using her creative skills crafting in fiber arts for over 40 years. Her passion is sewing and crocheting for both home and people. She holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Architecture and Interior Design.

STACY EPPERSON has more than 15 years of experience in environmental education, both for children and adults. She is an education specialist with the Department of Natural Resources and a volunteer master watershed steward.

PATTI EULER is the owner and creative director of Queen's Ink in Savage, and is a certified Zentangle® teacher. Over the past 14 years, she has taught a variety of expressive art classes, many of which used mixed media.

LEEANNE KRUSEMARK is a journalist, published author, successful business owner and adjunct professor. Krusemark has been a guest lecturer at a variety of colleges, including Purdue and Kent State University. KATIE LEONARD has a bachelor’s degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She teaches artistic media to students, from children to adults, at the Severn School in Severna Park and AACC’s art program. LORIAN LIPTON is an international speaker, trainer and consultant. She is a certified project management professional with experience in social business, learning solutions and digital branding. Lipton writes a business blog at http:// thedigitalattitude.com, and an award-winning pet blog at http://dogdaz.com.

LORI MANOOGIAN is a trained graphic artist and jewelry designer. She taught jewelry instruction at the former Bead Bungalow in Annapolis and is president of LB Graphic Design in Edgewater.

ELIZABETH MATERESE is a master gardener who has taught horticulture courses for a variety of institutions as well as fellow master gardeners. She completed the United States Department of Agriculture’s graduate school in horticulture and landscape design. GRACE PORTER, LCPC, holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Porter is a certified facilitator of the Amrit Method of yoga Nidra and the Integral Medicine Associate 16-week stress class, Taming the Bear. She is a bilingual psychotherapist (Spanish/ English) in Annapolis focusing on stress, life transitions, chronic pain, PTSD and anxiety.

KATIE QUIROZ has owned Mac Designs Jewelry for the past 10 years. She began her career in education, and later received certification in precious metal clay, silversmithing I and II, and lapidary techniques. She designs and creates each of the jewelry pieces she sells at local fairs. JANET ROESSLER has been partner and director of social media marketing for Tree Branch Design for the past three years. She has been responsible for setting up and maintaining social media promotions for businesses and nonprofits including the Annapolis Film Festival, As Kindred Spirits and Mid-Atlantic Networking. DAWN POLEY SCHULMAN is a freelance artist who enjoys working in multimedia. She is the assistant director of Lifelong Learning and coordinates the Women's Institute program. Schulman is a Certified Zentangle® Instructor.

KAREN SCHWARTZ-MCGADY has been involved in fiber arts for more than 40 years. She has knitted and crocheted a variety of home and personal items such as afghans, table runners, sweaters, scarves and shawls. She also hand weaves and her artistic background includes watercolors, sculpture and architectural drawing. PAULINE SENK is a master seamstress who received her training at the University of Rhode Island. She sews for Troika costumes in Glen Burnie and has taught sewing to both children and adults in a variety of settings.

BRIAN SMITH has been practicing meditation for over 35 years. He began studying various meditation forms in 1979 in the Indian Vedanta tradition, and also works with Kriya yoga, Buddhist Zen and mindfulness meditation. Smith instructs students in meditation practices, and is an active member of the Columbia Stillwater Sangha following the practice of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.

CONNIE SPARROW is on the board of the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society and has taught genealogy classes throughout the county. She began investigating her own family history in 1998, and then became involved with the Huguenot Society of Maryland and the Daughters of the Revolution. JO ELLEN STINCHCOMB-SOESBEE has been the owner of ToolBox TomGirl LLC in Pasadena for the past seven years. Along with her own business, she teaches students how to complete simple repairs at home.

MORGAN STROUD is the owner and lead virtual assistant at Simplified VA, an online business management company focused on basic virtual business administration, digital media marketing and training workshops. She is a certified Constant Contact Solution provider and Hootsuite professional.

GLYNNS THOMAS has more than 20 years of advertising and marketing experience which includes being vice president of internet marketing for Wells Fargo Bank. She is a marketing consultant and volunteer for SCORE. STEVE YOUNG is a certified Federal Career Coach trained at the Federal Career Training Institute. He received his Master of Education at Kutztown University, and is an academic advisor with the University of Maryland. SUE WESTENBURGER is an experienced educator and avid crafter. She has taught continuing education classes at AACC for 15 years. Her specialty is small quilting projects and baby quilts.

LIZ SORK has owned Inbloom Painted Glass for the past 10 years, and her craftwork can be found at many local craft fairs. She received her Associate Degree in Advertising, Design and Art from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. She also is known for her mural and faux finish painting.

AMY STEINDLER is a certified EQ-i/EQ 360 Practioner and Emotional Intelligence trainer certified MBI Life Coach and owner of EQ Insights, a corporate coaching and emotional intelligence training practice. She facilitates workshops helping clients improve their overall well-being.
