1 Installation Requirements The Governance Dashboard can be installed onto computers with the following operating systems:  

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional

Microsoft Windows XP, sp3 or higher

Intel® Core™ Duo compatible or higher recommended. The metadata scanner component of the Governance Dashboard 1.0 version is a native 32-bit application and runs in 32-bit compatibility mode on 64-bit processors. Governance Dashboard requires the Microsoft .NET 4.0 framework. The QlikView Governance Dashboard requires QlikView 11 IR or later to execute but it supports scanning QVW and QVD files created by QlikView version 10 SR2 and later. It is recommended that QlikView 11.2 (or later) be used whenever possible. Systems require 2 GB of RAM. Disk space: Installation: 140 MB Scanned Metadata Storage: 10+ MB (depending on number and size of QVW, QVD, QVX and QlikView Server and Publisher log files). The QlikView Desktop must be installed and licensed for use on the same machine. The Governance Dashboard will install but cannot run without the QlikView Desktop. The Governance Dashboard’s metadata scanner contains logic that can scan the log files of the QlikView Server and Publisher.

3

2 Install the Governance Dashboard This installation is designed for supported Windows-based systems. The following installation procedure should be used for a new installation and for an upgrade. Both are installed the same way. If you are upgrading Governance Dashboard from 1.0 to 1.0.1, see Upgrade the Governance Daskboard for instructions on how to use Scan Profiles created with the previous version. This procedure installs QlikView Expressor Engine on a separate server without the Desktop or Repository. During the installation procedure, your computer must have an Internet connection. Once the software is installed, you may work either online or offline. 1.

Download the QlikViewGovernanceDashboard.exe installation application from the QlikView Market. Place the installation file in any convenient file system location.

2.

Run the QlikViewGovernanceDashboard.exe file. Note: If you are upgrading, exit Governance Dashboard 1.0 before running the QlikViewGovernanceDashboard.exe file.

3.

Select the installation directory. The default directory for the 1.0.1 version is the same as the 1.0 version: C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0. If you change the location of the installation folder, you must manually change the Installation Folder field in the Dashboard's Configuration sheet when configuring your Scan Profile. Note: ProgramData is a Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 directory. If you are installing on Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP systems, see the Note below.

The installation program places a shortcut named "Governance Dashboard" in the All Programs>QlikView>Governance_1.0 folder on the Windows Start menu. A link to documentation is also included in the All Programs>QlikView>Governance_1.0 folder on the Windows Start menu. If this is a new installation, proceed to Start the Governance Dashboard. If this is an upgrade from the previous version of Governance Dashboard, proceed first to Upgrade the Governance Dashboard.

4

3 Upgrade the Governance Dashboard When you upgrade to Governance Dashboard 1.0.1, the installation program creates a backup copy of the existing Scan Profiles in the default and template directories under C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0\profiles and places them in a backup directory beneath C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0. The name of this new directory bears a timestamp, as in the following example: C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0\BACKUP.6142013093611\profiles\default C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0\BACKUP.6142013093611\profiles\template Fresh default Profile and Profile templates are created in: C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0\profiles Only the default and template Profiles are backed up. All other Scan Profiles remain in the C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0\profiles directory along with the fresh versions of default and template. You can use the previously created Scan Profiles as is with the new Governance Dashboard 1.0.1 version. No changes are required. You can also use default and template Scan Profiles that have been backed up. Use them directly from the backup directory. When using the previously created Profiles, you are running the QVW created with the Governance Dashboard 1.0 version. Nevertheless, when you run new scans with those QVWs, the scans run with version 1.0.1. The QVWs created with Governance Dashboard 1.0 display the 1.0 version number, but after upgrade, all subsequent scans run with version 1.0.1 even though the QVW displays 1.0. To use the default Scan Profile created with version 1.0, you must change the Profile Directory to point to the location in the backup directory:

If you altered the template Profile with version 1.0, you can also run it from the backup directory by changing the Profile Directory field, pointing to the backup template directory instead of default directory. Note: ProgramData is a Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 directory. If you are installing on Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP systems, see the Note below.

4 Start the Governance Dashboard This procedure installs QlikView Expressor Engine on a separate server without the Desktop or Repository. During the installation procedure, your computer must have an Internet connection. Once the software is installed, you may work either online or offline. 1.

Select Governance Dashboard from the Governance_1.0 folder in the QlikView folder on the Microsoft Windows Start menu. The Governance Dashboard opens in QlikView Desktop.

The Dashboard opens on the Summary Sheet, which provides push-button access to key sections of the Governance Dashboard. At startup, the first important section to access is Configuration. 2.

Press the Configuration button to open the QlikView Sheet where initial configuration can be performed. The Configuration Sheet contains the configuration settings for the default Scan Profile.

6

You can use this as the starting point for creating a customized Governance Dashboard Scan Profile. It will be saved in the default directory indicated by the Profile Directory field: C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0\profiles\default. If you want to create additional profiles, you can copy the default template from the C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0\profiles\template directory. See the Create Scan Profiles topic in the online documentation. Note: The default settings on the Configuration Sheet are based on Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. They also assume that QlikView Server and Publisher are installed. If QlikView Desktop is installed on other Windows systems: On Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP systems, change the Install Directory setting on the Configuration Sheet to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QlikTech\Governance_1.0. On Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP systems, change the Profile Directory setting on the Configuration Sheet to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QlikTech\Governance_1.0\profiles\default. If QlikView Server and Publisher are not installed, see steps 5 and 6 below for instructions on changing default settings for Server and Publisher. Steps 5 and 6 also contain instructions for changing the default Log Paths when Server and Publisher are running on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP systems. 3. Change the Install Directory field on the Configuration Sheet. This step is only necessary if you installed the Governance Dashboard in a directory other than the default installation directory or if it is installed on Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP (see Note above). 4. Add File Paths to directories that will be included in the scan for Governance Dashboard data. The default Dashboard includes the path to C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\SourceDocuments, which is the default location for documents created by QlikView Publisher on Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. For

7

Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP system, the default scan path must be changed to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QlikTech\QlikViewServer. 5. Deactivate the switch button next to Has Server? if the system running the Governance Dashboard does not have the QlikView Server installed. If the QlikView Server is installed, you can leave the button on (green). If the Server is installed, you can also select the With Audit? button to scan the Server's audit files. Note: QlikView Server auditing must be enabled in the QlikView Management Console in order for the audit logs to be generated and available for to the Governance Dashboard's scanner process. You can also specify a different Log Path if the Server has been installed in a location other than the default. Note: The default settings on the Configuration Sheet are based on Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. If QlikView Server is installed on other Windows systems, the Server Log Path must be changed. The default location on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP systems is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QlikTech\QlikViewServer. The Windows XP/Server 2003 button on the right can be selected to change the Log Paths for Server, Publisher, and Repository to the default paths for those systems.

6. Deactivate the switch button next to Has Publisher? if the system running the Governance Dashboard does not have the QlikView Publisher installed. If the QlikView Publisher is installed, you can leave the button on (green). The Publisher Datetime Format must be specified when the QlikView Publisher is used. See the "Set Publisher Datetime Format" section in the online documentation topic Getting Started with the Governance Dashboard. You can also specify a different Log Path if the Publisher has been installed in a location other than the default. Note: The default settings on the Configuration Sheet are based on Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. If QlikView Publisher is installed on other Windows systems, the Publisher Log Path must be changed. The default location on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP systems is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QlikTech\DistributionService. The Windows XP/Server 2003 button on the right can be selected to change the Log Paths for Server, Publisher, and Repository to the default paths for those systems.
