British/European Standards The information contained within this guide reflects details of current standards and is for guidance only. Relevant manufacturing and performance standards in use at the time of preparing this guide include the following:
Weathering All flag and kerb products will weather over time. The nature and extent of changes in appearance will typically be influenced by a combination of the following:

Note: Charcon cannot accept responsibility for the effect of ‘efflorescence’ which can be a characteristic of all good quality products with high cement content.
All Charcon products are also backed by BS EN ISO 9001:2008 quality management systems. Product appearance Part of the character and appeal of high quality hard landscape products is the texture and shade variation between individual flags. Although every effort is made to ensure consistency of product colour, variations may occur between batches.

The phenomenon may be exhibited by an apparent loss of intensity of colour and the appearance of a milky-white bloom on the face of the product. The effect generally disappears with time and is in no way detrimental to the performance of the product.

Kerbs and channels Standard kerbs and channels All of the straight units and most of the radius units are hydraulically pressed, other units being hammer-compacted or wetcast. All straight kerbs listed are 914mm (3ft) standard lengths. The 125 x 255 HB2 is also available in 609mm (2ft) lengths. When ordering please state the dimension first, then the profile and finally the description, if applicable, e.g. 125 x 255 HB HB2. Before ordering, check availability of size and profile. Road-Pod®

The Road-Pod® is a sustainable precast concrete modular system for use as traffic and pedestrian refuge islands. It offers a very cost effective off-site sustainable solution, with significant savings on cost and installation time. Additional benefits include reduction of site time spent in danger and enhancement of pedestrian safety. A typical unit can be installed over a period of 3-8 hours, with minimum traffic management, compared to 2-3 days with traditional on-site methods using kerbs, in-situ concrete and asphalt. The Road-Pod® system is available in a range of sizes to suit various applications. There are five types of arrangement, from 1.2 m to 1.8 m in width and a number of island combinations. Other widths are available on a made to order basis. The units come complete with provision for illuminated, reflective or solar powered type bollards, high level and solar powered columns, cast-in tactile surfaces and lifting points. The weight ranges from 382 kg to 1.93 tonnes.
Triangular Generally used on junctions where the road forks.
Semi-circular Used at road junctions and crossing points. Infill pieces available to enable these units to be elongated.

Charcon Urban Surface Protection (USP)
A pre-applied treatment for paving to ease cleaning and maintenance. Charcon Urban Surface Protection (USP) can be pre-applied to paving before it is delivered and laid. Whilst an element of cleansing may still be required during the life of the paving, the frequency and severity will be reduced and will lower maintenance costs. Charcon USP is supplied as standard on StoneMaster products and is available on a made to order basis for all other paving. Features and benefits • A chemically inert, environmentally friendly water based fluoro polymer • Does not affect the slip resistance of the coated area • Does not affect the colourant of the paving • Can be pre-applied to flag and block paving ranges at manufacturing plant location.

British standard flag paving

Standard paving sizes A-D Charcon’s hydraulically pressed paving is available in 50mm (2") and 63mm (2.5") thicknesses. When ordering, it is only necessary to specify A50, D63, etc. This paving is available in Grey, Buff or Red with a Standard or special patterned finish (Hobnail or Barfaced). Patterned in sizes: A50H, B50H, C50H and D50 (H made to order). (Bars on Barfaced flags run parallel down the length of the flag.)
