Since being acclaimed mayor in March, I have spent many hours chatting with residents at events, in my office, by telephone or email. In so many of my interactions, the subject of our recreation services comes up. I am proud of the positive reaction people have to our huge variety of programs. In fact, when you ask someone what we're known for, you are as likely to hear about our baseball programs, as our indoor pools, hockey arena, community theatre shows, or fitness classes. We have a long tradition of investing in recreation, including over the last 10 years. For this, I thank my fellow members of council, and in particular the person I replaced as mayor, Anthony Housefather, who is still helping the city as our Member of Parliament in Ottawa. Our latest investment is the renovation of Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park, which includes new playground equipment, better lighting, and the new Shalom Bloom Sculpture Garden. The park will re-open this fall. We think you'll be impressed.
