RIDEOUT COMMUNITY GARDEN... WATCH YOUR GARDEn GROW! Growing anything in Tahoe is a challenge even for the most experienced gardener. But, for those who have the desire and love for gardening, the rewards of growing your own fruit and vegetables in the mountains is extraordinary. Two Tahoe locals were scouting a location for an organic community garden in or near Tahoe City. Brian Kane and Lisa Renschen began their search for land, and after speaking with TCPUD, they found space at Rideout Community Center. “It’s both exciting and rewarding to watch the garden develop and come to life,” said Brian as he looked out over the garden beds. Everyone is welcome to participate. All green thumbs and not-so-green-thumb gardeners are invited to plant herbs, vegetables, fruit, flowers and trees. The A C T I v I T Y

only rule: You are asked to keep your beds tidy and weed-free and as organic as possible. There is always much to do to keep a garden. “Your” community garden needs more pathways made, more trees planted, additional fencing secured, and of course, the beds need to be winterized when the time comes. It’s a never ending process. In the meantime, stop by Rideout Community Center any time and visit the exciting Tahoe City Community Garden. Ask inside at the desk, or call the Parks and Recreation office for information on how you can be involved.
