Leisure Lines The Department of Parks and Recreation is well known for its maintenance and management of several facilities including Dryer Road Park, Victor Municipal Park and the Auburn Trail. Did you know that we have had the honor and privilege of managing and maintaining the Two-Hundred and Five (205) year old historic cemetery in the Village of Victor located near the Village Hall and Presbyterian and Methodist churches? This winter, we will begin work on improvements to the more recently acknowledged “Parks Family Cemetery” located on Rowley Road near Cole and Parks Restaurant and Burger King. In partnership with our Cemetery Restoration and Preservation Committee, plans include “new” landscaping, fencing, signage and grave markers for this rural cemetery. Are you a dog owner looking for a place to exercise and socialize with your dog and fellow dog owners? Many of our neighboring Towns in Monroe County have recently established dog parks for this purpose. While a dog park was not recognized as a near term need in our Parks and Recreation Master Plan, it has recently gained attention from the members of our Citizens’ Advisory Committee (CAC) in determining if this project is a desirable asset in our community parks system. Our initial goal would be to survey existing dog license holders in Victor to understand their needs, a potential site best suited for a dog park and the related cost associated for constructing and maintaining this type of facility. The CAC meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. if you would

like to participate in these discussions. Nevertheless keep an eye out for more information in the New Year! I would like to thank Emily Waldman, a local student artist that spent a good portion of her summer working with her friends and volunteers from Victor Hiking Trails on a mural in the New York State Thruway Authority Tunnel along the Auburn Trail in Fishers. Emily’s work includes a colorful rendering of several train cars heading down the track on their way to Victor from Pittsford. Please make an effort to hike out along the Auburn Trail to this wonderful display of public art. Work on the train mural will continue through (2015) so stay tuned for a ribbon cutting on this unique project brought to you by Emily and her team! We hope that you will join us for the annual Christmas in the Village and Tree Lighting events on Saturday, November 29th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Main Street and in Mead Square Park. Also, our community theater program will produce “Frosty’s First Adventure” for our winter musical with performances on December 5th and 6th at the Victor Early Childhood Education Center. I wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season wherever your winter adventures may take you! All the Best, Brian C. Emelson, CPRE Director of Parks and Recreation

PARKS INFORMATION Park Information

Lehigh Crossing Park • 7350 State Route 251 Lehigh Crossing Park is located off of Victor-Mendon Road (State Route 251) near Cork Road and Route 96. This 54 acre park plays host to several miles of multi-use trails, vehicle parking area and gazebo. With woods, wetlands and ponds located within this passive park, numerous birds, waterfowl and critters find this park an exceptional place to call home. Bring binoculars!

Auburn Trail The Town received Transportation Enhancement Program (TEP) grants totaling $2.3 million dollars for the design and construction of this multi-use trail. Construction will continue through 2014. In 2014 we will design and install interpretive and wayfinding signage, plazas and benches along the newly established trail. The recently completed bridge over Irondequoit Creek now provides trail connectivity from Fishers Road to Railroad Mills Road. Boughton Park • Stirnie Road & Boughton Road Located in the Town of East Bloomfield, Boughton Park is owned by Victor, East Bloomfield, and West Bloomfield. Run by an independent Board of Directors with representation from all three towns, the park covers 330 acres with 56 acres of ponds. Permits for the park can be obtained at Victor Town Clerks office, 85 East Main Street. Please bring proof of residency (NYS ID and car registration). The permits are free to Victor Residents. Dryer Road Park • 7405 Dryer Road This 132-acre park is the site of athletic fields and a box sports rink. There is a multiage playground for children, year-round restrooms facilities, and a picnic shelter, which is available for casual use or reservation. There are 15 miles of multiuse trails for a variety of skill levels and abilities. Please sign in at the trailhead kiosk and pick up a trail map prior to setting out to explore the trails. Trail maps can also be downloaded at www.mygroc.com and www.VictorNY.org. Fishers Park • 7929 Main Street, Fishers Located in the hamlet of Fishers, this 93 acre park is a diversity of passive and active recreation opportunities. Visitors can see a multitude of wildlife from deer, squirrels, and other woodland creatures to waterfowl and trout that spawn in the spring. Two tennis courts are available for the tennis players in your family. The extensive trail system is a great place to hike. Trails meander through the park across wooded ridges, through wetland areas, and along the banks of Irondequoit Creek. New acreage off Old Dutch Road provides you with many new trails with beautiful vistas. The extensive trail system is a great place to hike, snowshoe or cross-country ski.
