INTRODUCTORY RITES ENTRANCE

PENITENTIAL ACT I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,

through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

HOMILY CREED I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow through “and became man”)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

2.

With joyful lips we sing to You, Our praise and gratitude, that You should count us worthy Lord, to share this heavenly food.

4.

The mystery of Your presence Lord, no mortal tongue can tell; whom all the world cannot contain comes in our hearts to dwell.

A Manger Filled by Love Brought to you by the Social Justice Committee

The Cathedral Social Justice Group invites you to participate in the 2015 Manger Project by choosing gift tags - tied with yellow ribbon “straws” - from the basket “mangers” on the table at the back of the Cathedral church. Each tag specifies the needs of individuals served by the agency or facility named on the manger. Within the next three weeks, you are asked to bring the gifts - with the tags attached, please - and place them in receptacles under the manger table. They should not be giftwrapped, but you may want to put them in gift bags. Staff and committee members will keep them safe, and will sort and deliver them to the group homes and shelters named below. We must have the gifts by December 14th.

Ministry to the Sick If you or a loved one is sick, please remember to place their intention on the parish prayer line by contacting Jane Schneider at 535-3737 or [email protected]. In addition, if someone is facing a pending surgery or serious illness, it is very important to contact the Parish Office so that one of our priests can administer the Anointing of the Sick. A priest can come to your house, to the hospital, or meet you at the Church – it is just important to receive this sacrament of the Lord’s healing. “A re there any who are sick among you? Let them send for the priests of the Church and let the priests pray over them anointing them with oil…” (James 5:14)

Scriptural Reflection November 22, 2015 — The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Dn 12: 1-3; Ps 16: 5, 8-11; Heb 10: 11-14, 18; Mk 13: 24-32 Today’s Solemnity is more popularly called Christ the King. It is the last Sunday of our Church year. In Church terms, it is a relatively new Solemnity, having been established by Pope Pius XI in 1925. It was moved to this final Sunday in our Church calendar in 1970. The idea of Christ’s Kingship has much meaning to us. In establishing it, Pope Pius XI wanted the laity in particular to be attentive to its importance and to learn from it. The lesson (and this is reinforced in all of our readings on this holy day) is that the Lord must reign in our minds, in our hearts, in our wills, and in our bodies. We have regularly pointed out in these reflections that stewardship is God-centered in nature. Stewardship is a total way of life, a life of accountability which acknowledges God as our Creator and God as the owner of everything. We are merely stewards, or caretakers of what is rightfully the Lord’s. Being God-centered rather than self-centered requires conversion of heart and mind. None of us can ever completely achieve stewardship as a way of life; it is a journey of a lifetime. As St. Bernard of Clairvaux wrote, “The more I contemplate God, the more God looks on me. The more I pray to Him, the more He thinks of me, too.” 10
