PASTOR’S CORNER
NOVEMBER 20, 2016
PRINCIPAL’S POST
Dear Parishioners:
This weekend, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe. It is the last Sunday of the liturgical year. The placement of the feast of Christ the King on the last Sunday of the year is meant to remind us that at the end of time, all things will be subject to Christ’s rule, as we read in St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians: “Then comes the end, when he hands over the Kingdom to his God and Father, after he has destroyed every sovereignty and authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet, and the last enemy to be destroyed is death.” (1Cor 15:24-25) How consoling to us in the month of November as we remember and pray for the faithful departed, to celebrate the glorious feast of Christ our King who conquers death and who powerfully and gently rules over us. This week, we also celebrate the great American tradition of Thanksgiving. While we do well “always and everywhere” to give thanks to almighty God, it is also important for us to reflect deeply and seriously upon the many blessings God has bestowed on us and our families, and prayerfully express our gratitude to God, the author of every good gift and provider of every benefit. Thanksgiving Day Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. Once again, the celebrant will be Fr. David J. Young, Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ada, and Immaculate Conception Church in Kenton. I will be celebrating Thanksgiving Mass at Ada (my hometown) where I will be spending the Thanksgiving holiday.

THANKSGIVING COLLECTION – What better way to
give thanks for the many blessings we have than by sharing them with those in need. The Bishop Griffin Center, 2875 E. Livingston Avenue, serves over 400 families, including seniors, veterans, homeless and children every month with their food pantry and free store. Their monthly expenses average $6,200. Currently, donations are not meeting their monthly expenses and they are seeking help from parishes throughout the Diocese to assist with their need. Our Thanksgiving collection this year will go to the Center. We have set a goal of $2,400 and ask for your prayerful consideration to reaching this goal. Please make checks payable to St. Andrew Parish with Griffin Center in the memo line.
