Elected Unopposed As IIW President 2016-2017 My mission for Inner Wheel worldwide is to make the organisation a sea to fish in for women of integrity, passion, commitment and kind hearts, giving the personal service that touches the heart. A smile that will give hope to the hopeless, a pat on the back that will give the courage to move mountains, words that will motivate the helpless to achieve. We have come a long way from a small group of friends to a global community of friends. I want to be able to witness a situation when the served are so impressed that they want to be part of us. Our personal service to others is to be a helping hand to turn to, to lift and improve the standard of life to as many people as possible in our community. Training the trainers to increase by extension our services and create a positive ripple effect that may be endless. Our mission should include giving women the confidence to protect our children from physical and emotional abuse. Courage to say NO and STOP, and not be part of torture on our fellow women and children, by protecting and discouraging mutilation of any form.

District: 142 Country: Finland Approx 1,130 members During my almost 30 years in Inner Wheel, I have seen many IW ladies taking their place and making a difference to the lives of many. This slogan – Take the Place – has strongly touched me as an encouraging motto. Instead of saying “not possible” we can say “why not possible?”. Positive thinking enables us to meet the challenges of today’s world. Our organisation is an organisation of the future. My contribution for the future of International Inner Wheel is sharing the experience I have gained as Senior Lecturer at a university of applied sciences, as a member of non-governmental organisations and as an active lifelong learner – not forgetting the experience gained in my family life. My vision is “encouragement by joy”, and my tools are exchanging ideas and sharing our best practices in IW communication, meetings, conferences and conventions. In the changing world we live in, Inner Wheel gives us all an opportunity to put our skills to use on every level

District: NZ291 Country: New Zealand Approx 1,750 members Inner Wheel has been a major part of my life for 27 years and I believe that I have the necessary skills to be Vice President of our wonderful organisation. Over the years I have been involved with many committees and President of several large clubs and organisations. I had my own business for many years providing educational products to preschools and children with special needs. From this I have learnt business, organisational, leadership and people skills, teamwork, financial reporting, computer skills and the use of the internet as a powerful marketing tool. These are skills that will be of benefit in a role on the IIW Executive as we look to the future of our organisation. We have been given a great legacy by those who have gone before and now it is our turn to inspire younger women to join and therefore ensure the future of Inner Wheel. We need to equip and motivate our members to take on leadership roles, to carry out service projects and to promote Inner Wheel. Every child has the right to education, to be able to read and write. As Inner Wheel members this should be one of our top priorities. It is only through education can we hope to break the cycle of poverty and also achieve world peace. We must give support and encouragement to each other, our Clubs and our Districts so that we can make this and other dreams a reality. We as Inner Wheel members can achieve our goals and make Inner Wheel an organisation that becomes a household name. By believing in what we are doing together we will make a difference.

District: A77 Country: Australia Approx 3,360 members My name is Margaret Whitchurch and I come with over 30 years of Inner Wheel experience. I will promote my belief that we need new thinking, energy and teamwork at all levels of our organisation. I believe that we must do something to arrest the disbandment of clubs. Extension/retention is a passion of mine. I believe that we need to expand on the great presentations at the 16th Convention and not let them fall by the wayside. We have set a goal of 2024, the Inner Wheel centenary for this work. I would like to see the development of more education tools and the expansion of the database to build on the great work started in these areas. I will explore e-clubs for younger working women. I have worked for over 21 years as a counsellor and know that by far the greatest communication tool is listening. Today’s technology provides opportunities to explore different ways to have more open and friendly communication. I would love to hear the dreams of the Members for their clubs and districts and together work to make some of these a reality. My dream is to see our membership grow and IIW recognised in the wider community. I am a former nurse, manager of my late husband’s medical practice and real estate agent and I ran my own successful business for many years. Community involvement has always been a large part of my life. Receiving a Queen’s Service Medal (HRH Queen Elizabeth) for Community Service was a great honour but not as great an honour as receiving my Margarette Golding award.

Over 20 years I have seen our organisation grow, change and yet remain relevant. Taking on leadership at every level, I have done my best to help our Organisation remain responsive and vibrant. With this experience and as a person who strives to accomplish any task given with clarity and commitment, I will be able to contribute to the smooth functioning of the financial matters of International Inner Wheel. Accounts and bookkeeping are a passion of mine and I can proudly say that in the years that I was District Treasurer and Association Treasurer, I did a very good job of streamlining many financial processes. I promise to bring in a similar dedication to my role as IIW Treasurer if I am elected. Having travelled widely in India and abroad, I am very exposed to varied thinking and the varied way of functioning around the world. This makes me very sensitive to problems of the cross section of our members and given my ability of being easily accessible to all, I can confidently say I could be a valuable asset for International Inner Wheel. With total belief in our twin objects of friendship and service I measure my life not by the number of years lived, but the quantity of work done and the quality of love shown to others.

I got more and more involved in our association with passion, happiness and fulfilment, occupied diverse positions in the club, the district and was finally elected treasurer of FAMAT, our Association for France, Andorra, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. I intend to bring to Inner Wheel as International Treasurer: The skills that I developed initially during my graduate studies at “Institut d’Etudes Politiques” (a best-in-class political sciences and business school in France where I followed the finance and economics track), then in the creation and management of a cultural association of international concern and finally during my two years as treasurer at the FAMAT Board, concluded with excess cash; My expertise in communication and my capacity to simplify complicated issues in a didactic way; My strong knowledge in IT tools, both on Microsoft and Apple environments; My rigour in organisation and project management skills (e.g. the implementation of live translation at the Copenhagen International Convention); My natural passion and ability for team work and team spirit; My availability and reactivity to deal with all kinds of requests; My fluency in English, both spoken and written. The listed skills would allow me to manage the treasury of our association at international level following three principles: rigour, serenity and conviviality. 12

Communication is a vital tool for any organisation. As IIW Editor/Media Manager it is my mission to assist in a range of areas of communication across the global community of Inner Wheel and beyond. Globally it is an exciting time for Inner Wheel as we work together to boost membership and participate in a range of Social Projects to create a Happier Future for children across the world. The Website, Social Media and Written Media are all effective and meaningful tools that have their place in keeping lines of communication open. They can offer an immediate solution for sharing our successes and celebrations. All of these will be essential for us as an International organisation to ensure global membership growth and to promote the International understanding of Inner Wheel.

Club:

Bedfordview

District: 932 Country: South Africa Approx 220 members My Vision is: Encourage and develop the use of the ever evolving aspects and types of Social Media at all levels of IIW resulting in: Improved communication between Clubs, Districts and IIW. Greater awareness of the achievements of IIW both inside and outside the organisation for the benefit of the existing membership and the encouragement of potential members. A better understanding, amongst individual members, of the international standing of IIW and its work with UNICEF. I foresee that for many clubs worldwide there will be changes and varied demands on their resources. Their needs will be different and sometimes urgent, and there will be a call on clubs to assist in ways perhaps that will take people into new areas of thinking and understanding. On the other hand there will be opportunities to grow Inner Wheel which must not be missed. As clubs become more aware of the opportunities that social media can offer and see the benefits that accrue, this would encourage other clubs, not only to utilise social media platforms themselves but also to broaden the scope of the services that they could provide for their communities.
