FIRE INCIDENT Early yesterday morning before staff and students arrived at school, an evaporative cooler in Room 14 caught fire and caused some minor damage. Quick thinking by our gardener, Mr Walker, and the Duncraig Fire Brigade minimised the damage and restricted it to just one room. The roof and ceiling has suffered minor damage and there is some water damage to the carpet in Room 14. However, all student belongings and school resources are unscathed. Our first priority is the safety of staff and students. As a result all classes in “B” Block were relocated to ensure student and staff safety. With the exception of Room 14, students returned to their classrooms today. I have been advised that repairs to Room 14 may take from 4 to 6 weeks to carry out. In the interim, Room 14 students will move to Room 18.

I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all staff and students whose response to this incident was highly commendable. Yesterday’s program, whilst disrupted, continued School Times with a minimum of fuss and this is a credit to staff and students for their calm and 8.55am: Start of day 10.55-11.15am: Recess measured approach. 12.45-1.20pm: Lunch 3.00pm: End of day Term Dates 2017 Term 1 2018 31st Jan—13th April Term 2 2018 30th April—29th June Term 3 2018 17th July— 21st Sept Term 4 2018 9th October—13th Dec Voluntary School Contributions Kindy: $40 per child PP-Yr 6: $60 per child P&C CONTRIBUTION $40 per child These fees can be paid via Direct Debit, cheque or EFTPOS. SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS AFTER SCHOOL I would like to remind our school community that students who remain on school grounds MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian. They MUST stay within eyesight of parents and not wander around the buildings. I have received reports of student misbehaviour in toilet blocks and climbing trees in the playground. Students must not ride bikes around the buildings after school. People leaving the buildings are not expecting students riding bikes past their doorways. Students are not to go into a classroom without a teacher present. I would like to remind parents and students that the rules of the school do not change once the siren sounds and I seek the support of parents to help enforce these rules after school to ensure the school is looked after and your child remains safe. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS AND CHARGES Thank you to the families who have already paid their voluntary contributions and P&C levy to start the year. Financial support provided by parents plays a significant role in improving our capacity to add value to our students’ learning experiences. It would be great if families could pay these contributions by the end of term. SCHOOL COUNCIL VACANCY In a recent newsletter I advised parents of two vacancies on the School Council and called for nominations from interested parents. The nomination period ended on Thursday 15th Feb and I wish to advise that no nominations were received. As a result, I have asked our out-going members, Lisa Maishman and Sue Hambleton to remain on the council.

Clean Up Australia Friday 2nd March was Clean Up Australia Day. Our school participated by cleaning up our school grounds. The kids enjoyed being out and about making our school even more beautiful. We are very proud to say that our school was extremely clean to begin with, which reflects our thoughtful school community. Well done everyone.

P & C News

The Annual General Meeting was held on the 15th February and a new executive team for 2018 was voted in: President – Jenny Evans, Vice President – Nicola Graham, Secretary – Louise McConnel and Treasurer – Joanne Clark. The P&C would like to thank the 2017 Vice President, Jaye-Anne Muir, and secretary, Ying Sun, for the valuable contributions they have made to the P&C in those roles. The P&C would like to say a big thank you to everyone for the overwhelmingly positive response we’ve had to the ‘JUST ONE THING!’ note; we are so pleased that so many people want to help our little school in whatever way they can. Every little bit helps!! Here are some of the many events coming up to keep in the back of your mind.

Next P&C Meeting – Thursday 8th March, 7pm

All the official positions on the P&C have been filled, why don’t you come along to the next P&C meeting on Thursday 8th of March at 7pm in the school staff room? Any potential new members are welcome to attend this meeting to see what this is all about. The meetings are productive, and we are always interested to hear new ideas. Kids are also welcome.

Second Hand Uniform Sales Thursday 22nd March 8:40am – 9:15am

The second hand uniform sale will be held at the old canteen in the old undercover area. Uniform tops & faction shirts for a gold coin, dresses and jackets for $5. You will also be able to purchase communication folders & school bags at this time. All you need is to put your completed entry, with a gold coin donation, in the designated box in the Front Office by Monday the 26th of March. Your entries will be displayed on Chappy’s window and the winners will be announced at the Easter Assembly on Thursday 29th of March. Good luck and enjoy creating!

Lion’s Community Fair, MacDonald Reserve – Sunday 8th of April The P&C have decided to have a stall at the Lion’s Community Fair for both fundraising and PR purposes. It’s a valuable opportunity to show the strong P&C community and our pride in Padbury Primary School. And, as the cliché goes many hands make light work. The P&C are looking for both donations to sell and volunteers to man the stall (two per time slot). Set up is at 9:30 – 10:30 and pack up is at 3:30. We have some volunteers for the early time slots, but we really need some people to take up the mantle from 12:30 – 1:30, 1:30 – 2:30 and 2:30 – 3:30. Any help you can bring won’t be turned away!

Auto Fix Workshop The owners of Auto Fix Workshop, AoBo and Ying, are generously donating $10 from each car service to Padbury Primary School.

School Banking School banking is held each week on a Wednesday in the school library.
