NATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM LITERACY AND NUMERACY (NAPLAN) NAPLAN is an annual national assessment of all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Unless they are withdrawn or exempt from the assessments all students are expected to participate in the testing. Students are assessed in language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation), writing, reading and numeracy. This year the NAPLAN assessments are scheduled to be undertaken on 15, 16, 17 May. All schools across Australia complete the tests on the same day. Whilst all students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN testing, students with a disability or who have a temporary injury will be provided with assistance during the tests in accordance with the National Protocols for Test Administration. Formal exemptions may be granted for students with disability or who have recently arrived in Australia and are from a non-English speaking background. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from the tests. If you wish to withdraw your child from the tests, you must sign a parent or carer consent form. Our whole school, from Kindy to year 6, have participated recently in a “Say NO to Bullying” campaign and competition. The children have participated in discussions about what bullying really is and what strategies can be used to deal with situations when they feel like they are being bullied. They then planned and produced their own bullying posters. The theme of the campaigne was “Bullieve in Yourself”. There was a lot of really positive interaction amongst the children and several children even asking to give up their recess and lunch play to work on their posters. With some amazing prizes to be won I wish all the children luck as I forward their posters on to the competition organisers at Interrelate. Mrs Aravidis
