Exports and imports by country at constant 1963 prices and the quantum and unit value indexes presented in this copy of the Bulletin c o v e r the period f r o m I960 to 1970. The year 1963 was used as the base for calculating data for the period 1963-1970. In some countries, the data for I960 to 1963 were obtained by converting previous s e r i e s which had 1955 as the b a s e y e a r . The continuity of the two periods was ensured by a linkage of the unit price indexes in 1963. Import figures were harmonized independently f o r e a c h g r o u p of the "Foreign Trade C l a s s i f i c a tion by Economic Use or Destination" ( " C l a s i f i cación del C o m e r c i o Exterior por Uso o Destino E c o n ó m i c o (CUODE)"). For exports, the total unit value indexes were harmonized. Cobertura. En este Boletin se presentan s e r i e s revisadas de acuerdo con un nuevo c r i t e r i o en cuanto a cobertura. El í'ndice regional publicado anteriormente se refería sólo a los p r i n c i pales países m i n e r o s ; además, los productos se seleccionaban teniendo en cuenta que su conjunto representara 90% o más de la producción minera de cada país. Según el nuevo c r i t e r i o aplicado, el índice regional comprende todos los países que tienen producción minera y esta, a su vez, incluye todos los niveles producidos en el año 1963, tomado como base. Tanto para A m é r i c a Latina en su conjunto c o m o para cada país se presentan tres indicadores; producción minera, producción de petróleo crudo, y p r o ducción minera y de petróleo crudo. Con ello se quiso destacar la importancia de la producción de petróleo crudo en la región.
Cove rage. This Bulletin presents revised series in accordance with a new criterion as regards coverage. The regional index published p r e v i ously related only to the m a j o r mining countries; in addition, the products were selected in line with the criterion that as a whole they accounted f o r 90 per cent or m o r e of each country's mining output. According to the new c r i t e r i o n adopted, the regional index c o v e r s all countries with mining production, and this in turn includes all levels of production in 1963, which was taken as the base year. Three indicators are presented f o r both Latin A m e r i c a as a whole and each individual country: mining production, crude petroleum production, and mining and crude petroleum production. This is intended to highlight the importance of crude petroleum production in the region.
