new supervisory board members introduced Jaap Bakker and Dé Jansen joined the supervisory board of Den Helder Airport on behalf of CHC Helicopter Services in October of last year. Both can be proud of their vast knowledge and experience gained in the aviation sector: Jaap Bakker primarily in the commercial and financial area and Dé Jansen more on the operational side. He is also very familiar with the Den Helder region.

When this edition of the Den Helder Airport Newsletter comes out, spring will have arrived. However, we would like to take a brief look back on 2012. A turbulent year, with as absolute highlight the conclusion of a ten-year joint use agreement with the Ministry of Defence, which ensures the continuity of and thereby also employment at Den Helder Airport and Naval Air Station De Kooy for a longer period of time. Furthermore, in December, based on the Nature Conservation Act, a new permit was issued, with 1 January 2013 as the commencement date. Based on this permit, Den Helder Airport can make 27,000 flight movements for large planes and 5,000 for small planes annually as of that date. The current Defence decision is still based on a maximum of 25,000 flight movements, but we will be working together on expanding that to 27,000 per year. Not that we need it right away, but it is important to look ahead. A new record was also set last year since as many as 141,260 passengers passed our counters, surpassing our old record of 130,000. Another highlight was the highly successful Heldair Show Maritiem 2012. This joint open day of Den Helder Airport and Naval Air Station De Kooy attracted some 30,000 visitors on Saturday, 15 September. News from 2013 is that the expansion of Hangar 5 was officially put into use as of 1 January. A start was also made with the expansion of the large car park for passenger cars by 165 additional spaces and a start will soon be made on the construction of a new underground fuel installation for helicopters and aeroplanes. In this newsletter, Base Manager Pieter Broos of Noordzee Helikopters Vlaanderen talks about this Belgian helicopter operator that has been flying from Den Helder Airport for oil company Wintershall Noordzee as of recently. Other interviews were conducted with Dé Jansen and Jaap Bakker, the recently appointed members of the Supervisory Board on behalf of CHC Helicopter Services, and Kees-Jan de Waal of NOORDWEST Services & Security, a company active at the airport. Finally, Brenda Tax and Linsey van der Spree talk about how they manage to hold their own in the offshore world. If you would still like more information about us after reading this newsletter, I cordially invite you to visit Den Helder Airport. growth and investments in quality It's been about two years since Kees-Jan de Waal took over the security and surveillance tasks at Den Helder Airport with the company he founded, NOORDWEST Services & Security. Since then, the young company has undergone remarkable growth and has successfully passed an intensive certification process. And the Security Hallmark was acquired, as icing on the cake.
It is certainly remarkable that a start-up company has experienced strong growth in these times of global recession. Kees-Jan de Waal has this to say about it: “In April 2011, we started at Den Helder Airport with twelve people. Since then, we have been able to attract eight new clients plus a number of clients for which we perform ad hoc work. We now have 28 employees in our workforce. We provide property protection, reception and concierge services, and ISPS security (security of ships and port facilities), among other things. Besides the province of North Holland, we

new helicopter operator at den helder airport Starting on 1 January of this year, Noordzee Helikopters Vlaanderen (NHV) from Oostende has been flying for Wintershall Noordzee from Den Helder Airport. The Belgian helicopter operator moved into Hangar 5, which was recently expanded with a number of modern office and warehouse areas. As Base Manager here, Pieter Broos manages NHV's operations and feels right at home at the airport in Den Helder.
Pieter Broos studied Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology, for which he also did an internship at NHV. He enjoyed this first introduction, which would be followed up at a later stage. “I did my graduation project at Eurocopter in southern France. It was fantastic to look around at this helicopter manufacturer for an entire year and it was also a golden opportunity to perfect my French.” After his study, Pieter went to work for NHV. A company that currently employs some 340 people and flies with 26 helicopters in nine countries. At the beginning of last year, the company placed an order for ten EC175 helicopters at Eurocopter. This is an entirely new type of helicopter, for which two prototypes are being intensively

There was great disappointment when Loganair announced, just a week and a half after its official start, that it would be discontinuing scheduled service between Norwich and Den Helder Airport. Despite the fact that more bookings were being made after an intensive advertising campaign.

The first three of these aircraft - with registration PH-NZS, PH-NZW and PN-NZZ - were removed in October. The PN-NZU and PH-NZT followed in December.
