Credits

This qualification is expiring. The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December 2013.
Purpose This National Certificate is designed to provide recognition of the on- and off-site knowledge and skills of supervisors to operate and supervise tower cranes. On completion of this qualification, people will have knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to cranes and the skills required to work in the crane industry. People will also have the skills to plan and implement maintenance checks and servicing for tower cranes; erect, climb and dismantle a tower crane; sling regular loads and communicate during crane operations; arrange delivery of tower crane to site; and plan and direct complex lifting operations. Additionally, people will have the skills to supervise workplace operations, use office administration and communication systems, communicate information, write in plain English, and carry out mathematical calculations. As safety is of critical importance in the crane industry, this qualification includes standards that cover managing and providing first aid, and protecting personal health and safety in the workplace. All standards in the qualification are compulsory because tower crane supervision consists of a set of well-defined knowledge and skills that are applicable across all workplaces and locations. People who have completed this qualification can progress to the National Diploma in Cranes (Level 5) with strands in Mobile and Tower [Ref: 1163], or the National Diploma in Cranes (Management) (Level 6) [Ref: 1164].
Replacement Information This qualification and National Certificate in Cranes (Mobile Crane Supervision) (Level 5) [Ref: 0118] have been replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Crane Supervision (Level 4) [Ref: 1794].
