Throughout the programme, you will be undertaking guided and self-managed learning prior to and inbetween each workshop module, in order to supplement your knowledge and understanding of different coaching and mentoring approaches and methodologies available to you. The 5 days of classroom training (set 8 weeks apart, across three modules) are there to provide you with the opportunity to explore new and refresh on traditional approaches and tools, practice your skills, ask questions and seek advice, learn from the Tutor and other delegates, and to share your experiences and opinions and get support/provide support with your fellow learners on your development journeys. The workshops are based on three core themes, designed to cover everything you need to know and be able to do, in order to be an effective Coach or Mentor. These three themes are: 1.

Exploring the skills, principles and practices of effective management coaching and mentoring

2.

Reviewing your own ability as a management coach or mentor

3.

Undertaking management coaching or mentoring in the workplace

In-between each module, you will have a 1:1 coaching support call with the programme tutor to review how your self-managed learning activities are progressing, to discuss any challenges or problems you have, and to help you find practical solutions for your individual development needs. You may also wish to join in with a group supervision tutorial session which will be available between modules as optional sessions. Finally, but very importantly, you will complete work based assignments and submit these to Emerge for assessment – these are a fundamental part of the programme and directly lead to your ILM certificate being issued. The certificate is awarded following the successful completion/assessment of a work-based assignment, a minimum of 12 hours of coaching/mentoring practice and the submission/assessment of a coaching diary. The programme on average takes between 6 – 12 months to complete, depending on the pace you prefer to work at and your other commitments.
